ARUM: PACQUIAO EXCITED OF HORN FIGHT, CRAWFORD NEVER DEMAND MONEY By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Sun, 08 Jan 2017 Top Rank boss Bob Arum announced that he has told Manny Pacquiao the planned fight with Jeff Horn. Pacquiao allegedly felt excited of the fight. The veteran promoter was quoted by The Sunday Mail: ?Manny thinks Jeff is a very live fighter in the sense he?s a come-ahead guy and he says it will be a tremendous fight and a good challenge for him." Arum added that Jeff is a very good fighter but was not sure if the Aussie will beat the fighting senator. But he is positive that the former school teacher will give Manny a tremendous fight. Arum said that Horn is the kind of young man who really enlivens any sport - well spoken, looks good, comes from a good family and a well-educated young man, a real asset to the sport. ?I cleared it with Manny and I?ve cleared it with his people. He?s all set and ready to go if they can raise the money in Australia,?? Arum said. Pacquiao is now in Cayman Islands for a whirlwind tour this weekend. He will meet dignitaries, mingle with fans, and be the VIP guest of the much-publicized boxing match "Island Rumble" at the Truman Bodden Stadium. Meanwhile Arum supported Terence Crawford?s prouncement that the world light welterweight champ never asked for $7 million or any amount to face Pacquiao. Trainer Freddie Roach earlier told a group of reporters in New York that the Omaha-born fighter demanded a $7 million purse for the Pacquiao tussle. Arum explained that he discussed with Roach a potential Pacquiao-Crawford fight in April. ?I called Freddie up a few weeks ago because we wanted to talk to him about Crawford as a possible opponent,? Arum was quoted by BoxingScene. ?And that?s all we talked about. And he said, ?Tough fight, but Manny would be OK with it.'" Arum clarified that he never mentioned Crawford?s asking price to Roach because the Top Rank CEO has not discussed with Crawford about how much money the undefeated WBC/WBO/Ring light welterweight champion to face the biggest opponent of his career. ?I never mentioned anything to Freddie about what Crawford wanted,? Arum said. ?We never even presented the fight to Crawford. Crawford didn?t ask me for five cents. We never talked about it." Arum added that if the Pacquiao-Crawford fight will push through it will happen in the later part of the year. He wants Pacquiao to fight Horn in Australia in April. Crawford posted earlier in his Twitter @budcrawford402: "Just to clear the air I 'Terence Crawford ' never asked for 7mill to fight @mannypacquiao there was no conversation of me even fighting him." He said it was Pacquiao who priced himself $20 million for the fight. The world's No. 5 pound-for-pound fighter reportedly made $1.5 million for his last fight with John Molina Jr. last December 10. Arum would like Crawford to fight possibly in May with the opponent to be announced later. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Maloney L. Samaco. |
