MAYWEATHER AND MARQUEZ AVOIDING PACQUIAO By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Thu, 05 Jan 2017 Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez are two future Boxing Hall of Famers who have fought and won against the Filipino fighting senator Manny Pacquiao. The eight-division world champion was offering his two tormentors another ring date presumably to avenge his losses to the two world-class fighters. But both Mayweather and Marquez were turning down the Pinoy icon's fight offers. Money said he is already retired and he wants to stay retired enjoying his millions. Marquez boasted that the ferocious sixth round knockout during their fourth encounter was "divine justice" for the first three controversial fights whom he claimed he had won. Several fight analysts still believe that Pacquiao when matched against these two big names in boxing could still rake in the much needed revenues personally for the boxer and publicly for the cash vaults of Las Vegas. As of the moment, without a very popular opponent pay-per-view sales for Pacquiao bouts are suffering a drought. With the inactivity of Mayweather and Marquez and other senior grossers like Oscar de la Hoya and Shane Mosley boxing reception was never that attractive. At present, only Canelo Alvarez has proven to be an effective big time earner among rising stars that belong to the top ten pound-for-pound list of The Ring. His match with Miguel Cotto almost reached a million PPV's amounting to $58 million. Pacquiao wanted to face an opponent who could earn considerable retirement sums. Marquez is hinting a comeback. But against Pacquiao he said "No, no" with a big reason that he already knocked the senator out and had nothing more to prove. During Pacquiao-Marquez IV clash, Pacquiao was ĺeading in the judges' scorecards when the shocking KO came. Marquez, his nose bleeding, even admitted he could be stopped anytime had Pacquiao did not hit the canvas first. Marquez will not be giving any chance for Pacquiao to win again. Or in his mind, what if he could not KO PacMan, he might lose again in a controversial decision like those of the first three fights. And Dinamita has not fought since a unanimous decision win over Mike Alvarado in May 2014. That is more than two years of inactivity which could be his drawback against Pacquiao who fought twice last year. The legendary Mexican lost to Timothy Bradley, Jr. by split decision for the WBO welterweight title now held by PacMan. Marquez alleged that he was robbed of a victory once more. Bradley was the same guy easily beaten twice by Manny and gave the senator a much disputed loss. Mayweather won over Pacquiao fighting with an injured shoulder and was not permitted to inject legal painkillers. Then there was a controversy surrounding Floyd using an intravenous injection which was disguised as a performance enhancing drug. Mayweather kept telling the media that he is already very well-off and doesn't need the money to stage a comeback. But the signs indicate that the former pound-for-pound king always wanted to hug the limelight. He is inclined to fight Conor McGregor, the most popular mixed martial arts champ whom he could defeat easily in a boxing match and at the same time attracting PPV buyers from both boxing and MMA fans. Pacquiao is willing to face Mayweather and Marquez anytime. But as of now both PacMan archrivals are turning deaf ears to the Pacquiao challenge.
