Amanda Nunes frustrates Ronda Rousey's return to the Octagon
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 31 Dec 2016

"SHE'S BACK" was the slogan for Ultimate Fighting Championship's UFC 207, referring to the return of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) superstar Ronda Rousey.
But Rousey's return after her devastating first career defeat to Holly Holm at UFC 193 last year ended in another loss in the hands of the current holder of her former bantamweight belt - Amanda Nunes.
Nunes stopped Rousey in only 48 seconds of Round 1 of their UFC 207 headlining fight at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Friday night to successfully defend her title and frustrate the future plans of the once invincible Rousey.
The 28 year old Brazilian fighter was fierce from the opening round. She hit Rousey with huge shots that immediately placed the former champion in trouble.
Rousey retreated from the initial barrage of punches from Nunes but the champion stalked her and poured additional hard shots on the now reddened face of Rousey.
Rousey tried to hold and defend against Nunes' attack but was unsuccessful in doing so. Referee Herb Dean stepped in and halted the fight as Rousey staggered across the octagon.
Nunes not only defied the waging odds for this fight but she also frustrated Rousey's multitude of fans who looked forward to her comeback Friday night after a year-long absence from the octagon and a minimal presence in the public eye after her defeat last year.
Rousey was a non-factor in the build-up to this fight as opposed to her previous big fights. This raised questions about her state of mind leading to this fight.
That was quickly answered Friday night as Rousey withered under pressure from Nunes.
Nunes (14-4) who earned $100,000 on top of another $100,000 guarantee closed as a +150 underdog to Rousey who earned 3 million dollars in her only fight this year. Rousey (12-2) was favored at -180 in various betting stations in Las Vegas.
