YELIEQIATI WINS WBO GREATER CHINA BANTAM TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

SHANGHAI, CHINA ? The League of Fists bantamweight finals between Yelieqiati Nihemaituola and Xie Zhiquan was a fast paced nail-biting affair. Xie played the aggressor?s role and Yelieqiati?s timing was a bit off in the early going.

It turned into a see-saw battle in the first half of the fight but the southpaw Yelieqiati began to find his range. Xie continued to press forward but Yelieqiati?s accurate counters and right hook-left combination made him win rounds past the halfway point.

Many of the rounds were close and both boxers closed the show with torrid exchanges in the last two rounds. The scores read ? Sawaeng Thaweekoon ? 78-74, Edward Ligas and Mekin Sumon ? 77-75 all for Yelieqiati.

The referee for the finals was Atty. Danrex Tapdasan. This fight was a rematch of their first encounter early in the first season of the League of Fists boxing tournament which ended in a four round split draw last November 2015.

Yelieqiati was awarded the WBO Greater China title belt by WBO Asia-Pacific chief Leon Panoncillo and SECA CEO Sheng Li.

Both boxers were undefeated going into this bout. Yelieqiati is now 8W-0L-1D, 1 KO while Xie drops to 4W-1L-3D,1KO.

The middleweight division of the League of Fists also had one semi-final bout on tap with Wang Jianjing blitzing Maheshati Bolatihan, dropping him twice in the opening round.

Maheshati was staggering when Referee Sawaeng Thaweekoon motioned him to walk forward after he got up prompting the stoppage at the 2:27 mark.

For the undercard matches:

Li Tonghui beat crafty veteran Romeo Jakosalem of the Philippines by unanimous decision in a six rounder. Jakosalem proved to be an elusive target but Li maintained his aggressiveness and threw more punches throughout the course of the fight.
The scorecards from Yuan Yunzi, Mekin Sumon and Michelle Ng all read 60-54.

Aizi Aili won by TKO in the first round against Filipino Gabriel Royo. Aili came out firing and Referee Samson Iu noticed Royo?s legs were shaking while he was taking punches prompting the stoppage at the 1:34 mark.

Xu Da got a majority decision against Musitapa Aishajiang. Scores ? Du Liqiang ? 38-38,Sawaeng Thaweekoon ? 39-37, Han Hongxiang ? 40-36.

Zhan Zefeng decked Kunram Thongchai of Thailand in rounds one and three and cruised to a four round unanimous decision win. Judges Yan Wenyong, Yang Hong and Surat Soikrachang all scored it 39-35.

Yan Jie beat Russian Dashi Ubonov by unanimous decision. Scores ? Zhao Yubin ? 40-36, Yuan Yunzi and Danrex Tapdasan ? 39-37.

In the opening bout of the night, Pierdong won by unanimous decision against Cheng Fei. All three judges ? Edward Ligas, Surat Soikrachang and Michelle Ng - scored it 40-36.

This fight card was the first of three straight fight days set at the Xianxia Tennis Center in Shanghai. The League of Fists boxing tournament is promoted by SECA and TOP RANK. The bouts were officiated by the Professional Boxing Commission (PBC) of China.
