PACQUIAO WELCOMES VARGAS' PROMISE OF AN ACTION-FILLED FIGHT By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Sun, 06 Nov 2016 The camp of Jessie Vargas promised to press the action this coming Saturday (Sunday Philippine time) in his WBO world welterweight title fight with Manny Pacquiao. ?You know we have [a big punch awaiting for Pacquiao], of course,? Vargas trainer Dewey Cooper said in Los Angeles Times. ?And when it lands, good night!? Pacquiao's foes had been notorious of evading the senator's punches by running and coasting along not to be knocked out. Prominent boxers who slugged it out with the eight-division world champion were Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto and they suffered KO's. ?Manny Pacquiao has had a great career, and it would mean the world to me to beat him,? Vargas said in USA Today. ?The few who have beaten him have become legends, and I look forward to joining that group.? Vargas is still an unknown in the boxing world even if he is already a world champion. Scoring an upset against a future Hall of Famer would mean more prestige and more money in the bank. Pacquiao is known for giving his all in every fight, chasing his opponent whenever he runs to show a good fight. After Cotto most of his opponents would love to run to evade his KO power. ?I?m not a greedy person. I give tickets and money to the people and I give a good fight to the fans,? Pacquiao told Los Angeles Times. ?That?s my mission.? After the weigh-in Vargas is a little heavier aside from having the height and reach advantage and younger by ten years. Pacquiao though has 66 bouts with 58% KO rate compared to Vargas' 28 fights with 36% KO rate. ?Both of us have advantages in this fight, but it depends on how you use it and if you don?t know how to use your advantage, you?ll lose,? Pacquiao said. ?I?m hungry too, and I have advantages I know how to use in this fight. Pacquiao already has a fight plan but could not disclose it. He is the favorite to win the boxing title from Vargas and become the first incumbent senator to do so. "Jessie Vargas is the champion. He?s a lot taller than me and that?s an advantage, but it?s not the first time I?ve fought a taller guy. I cannot disclose how I?ll win the fight, but I can say I?m excited for Saturday.?
