DELA TORRE RETURNS TO THE RING AGAINST FRANK TRADER WHO LAST FOUGHT TWO YEARS AGO

PhilBoxing.com

Unbeaten Filipino super featherweight Harmonito ?The Hammer? Dela Torre returns to the ring on Nov. 11 for his second fight in the US against Pennsylvania?s Frank Trader who last fought and lost a unanimous six round decision to Anthony Burgin on April 12, 2014 at Bally?s Event Center in New Jersey.

Dela Torre who has a record of 18-0 with 12 knockouts is coming off a disappointing performance against Guillermo Sanchez over whom he scored an eight round majority decision at the Seneca Niagra Resort and Casino in New York last May 27.

The unbeaten Dela Torre scored a majority decision win in his U.S debut over veteran journeyman Guillermo Sanchez in the televised main event on Championship Boxing on the CBS Sports Network but it wasn?t as dominating a performance as expected at the Seneca Resort and Casino in Niagara Falls, New York.

Two judges ? Tom Schreck (77-75) and Don Ackerman (78-74) scored the fight for the lanky Filipino from the Sanman Promotions Gym of youthful president Jim Claude Manangquil while Terri Beecher-Johnson had the fight even at 76-76.

With the win Dela Torre improved his record to a clean 18-0 with 12 knockouts while Sanchez, a Puerto Rican southpaw who fights out of Buffalo, New York, dropped to a woeful 15-19-1 with 6 knockouts.

A tense Dela Torre swung and missed several times in the opening round while Sanchez caught the Filipino with some solid lefts but once he had settled down from the second round onwards, De La Torre began to find the range and used his hand-speed to rip into the tiring Sanchez in rounds seven and eight to win fairly comfortably.

Although his record appeared dismal, Sanchez had fought and lost to such big-name fighters as Adrien Broner, Julior Diaz Jr and Ronnie Rios and merely hit a bad patch after winning his first eleven fights.

Sanchez lost by a 2nd round TKO to the undefeated Broner on September 4, 2010 in a scheduled ten round bout, lost a unanimous eight round decision to unbeaten Ronny Rios on April 7, 2012 and suffered a 2nd round TKO at the hands of Joel Diaz Jr who was 10-0 at the time on August 18, 2012.

It was clear that Dela Torre wasn?t getting the kind of rivalry he needs to progress in his career in the Philippines and would have to continue to train and fight in America to hone his undoubted skills and punching power.
