BREAKING NEWS: CASIMERO KO'S RUENROENG By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Wed, 25 May 2016 CHINA ? It was sweet vengeance for Johnriel Casimero of the Philippines when he dropped Thai Amnat Ruenroeng twice in round four at the Diamond court in Beijing and took Ruenroeng's IBF world flyweight title. Casimero was the aggressor in the first round but Ruenroeng was up to his old tricks, holding the Filipino challenger and Casimero once again found himself off balance on the canvas. In the next two rounds Ruenroeng was effective with his counters from a distance, then handcuffing or pushing Casimero when he got in close. But in the fourth, Casimero caught Ruenroeng up close and the Thai was decked and still dazed when he got up. Ruenroeng tried to hold Casimero off but a hard left to the stomach sent the Thai down for good. Referee Tony Weeks stopped it at 2:20. Last year, Casimero lost to Ruenroeng by unanimous decision in a foul-filled bout held in Bangkok. One of Ruenroeng?s successful defenses came at the expense of China?s two time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming in Macao. There was controversy going into this title bout when reports posted on the internet stated that the protagonists did not make the required weight. This will have to be sorted out in the coming days. For the main undercard bouts ? In a female IBF minimumweight elimination bout , Zong Ju Cai of China beat Samson Tor Buamas of Thailand by unanimous decision. Cai build an early led with accurate counter hooks. The scores ? 100-90,99-91,99-91. Jose Antonio Jimenez of Colombia beat Xiong Chao Zhong of China by split decision in an IBF flyweight eliminator. Jimenez was sent down by two quick lefts in the opening round but rallied and was the more effective boxer in the late rounds when Xiong faded. Two judges had it 114-113 for Jimenez, one had it 116-111 for Xiong. Xiong is a former WBC minimumweight champion and holds the distinction of being China?s first male boxer to win a professional world title.
