COUNTER PUNCH REPORT: HILT VS BURGOYNE

PhilBoxing.com

THE COUNTER PUNCH REPORT

FIGHT STYLE

COUNTERPUNCH expects this one to be one of, if not - the fight of the night. A great match up between two undefeated fighters both aiming for title honours in the welterweight division. It will be an explosive bout. Both men punch hard and accurately.

KEYS TO VICTORY

MATT BURGOYNE - Take the early ascendency. Control the bout from the beginning. Burgoyne needs to make his punches count, he has knock out power so he will want to take the wind out of Hilt's sails in the early rounds. Counterpunch is a big fan of Burgoyne. One of our team was at a Townsville show a few years back and Joe Pennisi mentioned to us -'Watch this boy I have fighting in a corporate fight.' That 'boy' turned out to be Matt Burgoyne. in 16oz gloves and head gears Burgoyne looked like a seasoned pro and knocked out his opponent within one minute of round one. He's a very promising up and comer.

JAMIE HILT - Jamie Hilt is a very calculated fighter. He doesn't waste punches, he takes his time and when he strikes - he strikes hard. Hilt finishes strong but in this one he can't afford to give away too much too early. Hilt has impressed in his four fights to date - in a majority of those fights he was giving away plenty of in ring experience. However Hilt has looked like a seasoned pro from day one which is a huge credit to himself and his mentor Craig Monagle. Counterpunch has no doubt this is Hilt's toughest test and Burgoyne will be the biggest puncher he has faced. All that being said - Jamie Hilt is equal to the task - no question about that.

FIGHT PREDICTION

Really really good fight. Both men have taken similar career paths. Burgoyne and Hilt both rose to prominence in the corporate fighting ranks. As pro's they've been just as successful. Neither has a career loss on their record. The only form line you can draw - both fought Matt Te Paa, Hilt recording a points victory and Burgoyne has fought him twice with one win and one draw. Really even fight, could go either way. From a crowd point of view I think it will be an entertaining bout. May the best man win!
