TEAM PHILIPPINES UNVEIL NEW LOOK AND BATTLE CRY

PhilBoxing.com

Hollywoods, CA - Posing today for an exclusive photo for PhilBoxing.com and the ABS crew from the Philippines, the members and coaches of World Cup Team Philippines showed off their new look and revealed their battle cry.

The team, taking a cue from Diosdado”Prince” Gabi, decided to cut their hair and sport a buzz cut to show solidarity as a team. “We are going to war and this new look signifies our cohesiveness as a team as we prepare for the World Cup”, said Edito Villamor, the chief trainer at the famed ALA Gym in Cebu.

The team also revealed their battle cry for the ABS crew. “Go Philippines” was their unified reply when they were asked by Dyan Castillejo how they felt as a group going to battle for the World Cup.

“Hindi lang doc para sa aming sarili ito. Ito ay para sa ALA Gym at sa buong Pilipinas. Alam naming ang bigat nang dala namin, pero handa kaming itayo and karagalang nang bayan”, Villamor stated. (This is not only for us, but it is also for ALA Gym and the whole country. We know the weight on our shoulders, but we are ready to bring honor to the country.)

The team members, particularly those from the ALA Gym are in high spirits and ready to go. “Biro mo doc, dito pati si Sir Mike at asawa niya para pakita ang suporta sa amin, Bert Batawang mentioned, ano pa ang masasabi namin?” (Even Sir Mike and his wife are here to show their support, what else can we say?). Batawang was of course referring to their manager, Michael Aldeguer, the son of their benefactor, Antonio L. Aldeguer of Cebu.

As for Z Gorres, what is so nice to see was the fact that in spite of the unfortunate incident that he had experienced lately regarding his eyes, Gorres was focused on the task ahead. “Basta ihahanda ko ang sarili ko para lumaban matuloy man o hindi,” Gorres said. ( I will prepare my self either my fight will go through or not).

After the training and photo session, the Team met at the Thai restaurant nearby and had the usual Wednesday lunch with this writer. Also present were the ABS crew, Dyan, Val and Rene together with Pinoy photog, Dr. Manny Ortega and taxman, Michael Quidilla.

Tomorrow, August 2, the Team will meet the Los Angeles media at the Wildcard Gym. Golden Boy Promotions will handle all the arrangements for that meeting.
