GENNADY GOLOVKIN'S DEVASTATING POWER EXPECTED TO PREVAIL AGAINST DOMINIC WADE

PhilBoxing.com

Unbeaten Gennady Golovkin's devastating power is expected to prevail when he takes on Dominic Wade on Sunday, Manila Time, before a sell-out crowd at the Forum in Los Angeles.

The 34 year-old Kazakhstan knock-out specialist, who weighed in at 159lbs, to the American's 159.6lbs, has sold out the Forum here in Los Angeles for a fight which everyone is predicting will see an ominous record of 34 wins, 31 of which have come inside the distance - including the last 21 - and 17 inside the first three rounds, extended with brutal ease and devastating power.

Golovkin, the WBA, IBO and IBF middleweight champion, is five triumphs away from equalling Bernard Hopkins' feat of defending his title 20 times.

Steve Brenner of the Daily Mail Online reports that "Wade is no pushover. The man from Washington DC is also unbeaten with 18 victories . His eyes are transfixed on the prize. To the 26 year old's eternal credit, he accepted one of the most dangerous tasks in sport in a heartbeat.

Wade's manager Jerry Vines said "the fight could be like when Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson in Tokyo. People haven't done their homework on Dominic. They don't know him. We can turn the boxing world on its head."

That much is true. Yet, much to Wade's displeasure, all the talk here has centered on what happens next for the man known as GGG.

With the WBC demanding the winner of Canelo Alvarez's clash with Amir Khan next month meets whoever is victorious here in the City of Angels, the prospect of the Mexican superstar locking horns with Golovkin is already being trumpeted as the mega event of 2016.

Khan versus Golovkin would be equally fascinating. The Brit's name, however, has barely been mentioned this week.

Brenner points out that "in the madly unpredictable world of top level boxing however, nothing is straightforward.

Canelo, who takes on Khan at a 155 lbs catch weight, has already hinted a refusal to fight at Golovkin's 160 lbs while his promoter, Oscar de la Hoya stressed earlier in the week that the fight could take time to 'marinate.'

Canelo Alvarez has said he will refuse to fight Golovkin at 160 lbs instead wanting a 155 lbs catch weight deal.

Golovkin has even broken ranks and accused Canelo of putting money before a push to pit the best against the best. Defeat would be a crushing financial blow for the Mexican.

'Everyone says Canelo is a great champion, the idol of Mexico. The idol of what? For boxing? Or as a businessman? Right now, he looks like a businessman,' Golovkin told the LA Times.
