JOEBERT ALVAREZ TO RETURN ON ALA PROMOTIONS CARD ON JULY 9 IN SAN MATEO EVENTS CENTER By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 21 Mar 2016 Alvarez wins. ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer has confirmed that Filipino southpaw Joebert Alvarez who scored a stunning 6th round TKO victory over Jonathan ?La Bomba? Gonzalez to win the WBO North American Boxing Organization and FECARBOX flyweight title in Puerto Rico on Sunday will be on the fight card at the San Mateo Events Center in California on July 9. Aldeguer told The Standard that Joebert?s promoter ?Toto? Zabala had asked him even before the Gonzalez fight whether he could feature the 24 year old flyweight on their July 9 card. Aldeguer said he?d like to help but they still have to work out the details which he expects to get done. The entry of Alvarez is certain to boost an already exciting fight card to be headlined by unbeaten 'Prince' Albert Pagara. The youthful ALA Promotions CEO also told us that the title defense of WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes against Raul ?Rayito? Garcia has received the approval of president Francisco ?Paco? Valcarcel and only the contract needs to be signed by Garcia. The trainer of Alvarez, Nonito ?Dodong? Donaire Sr, father/trainer of five division world champion and reigning WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire had predicted in a conversation with The Standard prior to the fight that he expected Joebert to win. He told us Joebert was ?looking good in training? at his Boxing and Fitness Gym in Oakland, California. In an overseas telephone conversation with us, ?Dodong? Donaire said Alvarez dropped Gonzalez in the 2nd round but suffered a cut and told the referee that it was caused by a head-butt and he was ?worried about the cut? but the referee claimed it was caused by a punch. He said Alvarez ?kept on pressuring Gonzalez and they began exchanging punches but Joebert was much stronger.? Donaire Sr said the 24 year old Gonzalez who was ranked No. 6 by the IBF and had a record of 18-1-1 with 12 knockouts suffered his only loss at the hands of former world champion Giovanni Segura by a 4th round TKO on August 17, 2013 because of overconfidence while Alvarez? only loss was a hugely controversial ten-round decision to WBO/WBA flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada in Sonora, Mexico on December 6, 2014.
