Gonzales battles Canillas tonight

PhilBoxing.com

ALL SYSTEMS go for the much-awaited Roberto ??Bad Boy from Batangas?? Gonzales and Arjan ??Spartan?? Canillas bout tonight for the Philippine lightweight title at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Both boxers refused to give their predictions but promised to give their best when they trade punches for the vacant title. The winner is expected to fight for a World Boxing Organization regional title on July.

??This is going to be a beautiful fight and I don?t want to disappoint the crowd,?? said Gonzales in Filipino. The 5-foot-7 former Puerto Galera boatman has a record of 26-2-0, 16 KOs.

Gonzales is the main bet for international stardom of Touch Gloves Boxing Gym owned by Elmer Anuran, also the president of Saved by the Bell Promotion which is promoting the highly-charged fightcard dubbed as ??Laban Pinoy.??

??If Gonzales will give me a beautiful fight, then I will also give him a beautiful fight. This is going to be a beauty,?? said the soft-spoken Canillas in halting Filipino. The 5-foot-7 power-puncher from Toledo City will carry a 13-0 fight record, including 10 knockouts. He is ranked number one in the lightweight division, one rung higher than Gonzales.

Leon Panoncillo, WBO chief for Asia Pacific, said the event is a good test fight for both boxers. ??The winner will have the chance to vie for a WBO regional crown,?? said Panoncillo, who attended the weigh-in yesterday at the Edsa Shangrila Hotel in Manila. He will supervise the WBO Oriental super bantamweight championship between Bernabe Concepcion (34-6-2, 20 knockouts) of the Arci Boxing Stable and ALA?s Jimmy Paypa (17-3-1, 6 knockouts).

Anuran said Saved by the Bell aims to lift Philippine boxing by giving the public tough fights.

??This is about the passion and determination to help Philippine boxing. Historically, those who became Pinoy world champions came from the ranks of national champions,?? said Anuran. ??I would like to thank ALA Boxing and the Games and Amusements Board for making this card possible. Saved by the Bell right from the start always gives the public thrilling encounters because I believe this is the only way to lift PH boxing.??

Tickets are available at Ticketnet ((632)911-5555.
