PICSON SHOCKED BY REPORT PSC ALLEGEDLY RELEASED NEARLY P1 BILLION TO DISCREDITED FORMER PNP CHIEF WHILE DENYING P3 MILLION FOR BOXERS TO TRAIN IN THE USA

The executive director of the Amateur Boxing Alliance of the Philippines or ABAP, Ed Picson, expressed shock over the report that almost P1 billion was siphoned off by PAGCOR to the former discredited Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Alan Purisima.
Picson who is in San Francisco with the team of Olympic hopefuls for a training stint prior to a qualifying tournament in China told The Standard, ?how did this happen. What has Purisima got to do with the PSC or sports development??

The Philippine Sports Commission headed by its chairman Richie Garcia refused to release P3 million for a training stint of our boxers in the United States but in his widely-read column in the Philippine Star, Jarius Bondoc disclosed that former PNP Chief Alan Purisima had received almost P1 billion from January 2012 to June 2015.

As a police general Purisima, referred to as a bosom buddy of President Aquino, had nothing to do with sports development or the operations of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation or Pagcor.

Bondoc reported that all the acknowledgement receipts had the ?conforme? of Alfredo B. Benitez with Purisima as the ?payee.?
Picson and the team of 11 men and 3 female boxers plus four coaches are in the Bay Area in San Francisco to train at the Golden Gate University and engage in sparring stints in Los Angeles and Las Vegas on the invitation of Filipinos in San Francisco led by the chairman of the department of public administration at the university.

With the refusal of the PSC to spend for the training stint, ABAP turned to the MVP Sports Foundation to save the day.
However, the PSC had no choice but to deny the request for a P3 million budget since it failed to get the approval of POC president Jose ?Peping? Cojuangco.

Garcia and Cojuangco claimed the trip was too close to the Asia/Oceania qualifying tournament in from March 23 to April 3 in Quianan, China where ABAP plans to field five men and a lone female boxer.

PSC chairman Garcia said it would be too taxing for the boxers to return from the US and then fly to China for the Olympic qualifier.

ABAP president Ricky Vargas told The Standard ?we believe in our coaches and the sports science team that drew up a strategic plan.?
