NBA -- Warriors improve to 51-5 after beating Heat

PhilBoxing.com

MIAMI - Steph Curry and Klay Thompson scored 27 of Golden State's final 29 points in the fourth quarter and the Warriors earned a hard fought 118-112 victory over the Miami Heat at the American Airlines Arena.

Curry finished with a game-high 42 points along with seven boards and seven dimes. Thompson, the other half of the Splash Brothers, added 33 points including 15 straight in the fourth quarter.

But it was Curry's back to back 3s in between Dwyane Wade's free throws, including the go-ahead 3-pointer over the outstretched arm of Miami center Hassan Whiteside with 38 seconds left that sealed the deal for the visiting Warriors.

"It was a huge test," Curry said after the game. "On the road, any time you play against a playoff basketball team, it's going to be a tough task."

Thompson added: "No games are going to come easy, especially on the road. That is a veteran team and they got guys that really know how to play. They weren't going to let us get out on transition a lot. Really tried to grind out and they played at a methodical pace. We could almost play any style, but we just had to make them uncomfortable. "

The Heat wasted a season-high 32-point performance by Wade. The 13-time All star missed a game tying floater with 26 seconds left in the game. Whiteside added 21 points and 13 rebounds while Loul Deng chipped in 16 points.

"It was a great game. It was exciting for the fans. We played Miami Heat basketball. It went down the stretch. I felt like we were right there. They made one or two tough shots. It went right there," Hassan said.

Miami will look to reclaim the third spot in the East against the Boston Celtics on the road Saturday night, while the 51-5 Warriors will carry their chase of the Bulls' 72-win season with a visit to Orlando on February 25.
