Jessie Magadaleno.
Promising super bantamweight Jessie Magdaleno maintained his perfect record by annihilating Rey Perez of the Philippines in 7 rounds at Top Rank's Solo Boxeo show at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona.
Magdaleno crushed the taller Perez with a vicious body shot at the 2:51 mark of the 7th round that punctuated his dominant performance against the Filipino fighter Saturday night.
Cruising to a shutout win, Magdaleno blinded Perez with jabs upstairs and then he unleashed a left hook to the liver of which Perez was unable to recover from.
Perez folded like a deck of cards in the canvas, grimacing in pain as the referee counted him out for the night.
Magdaleno improved to 23-0 (17 KOs) and solidified his standing as the Number 1 contender to the World Boxing Organization's (WBO) 122 pound crown which is currently being held by another Top Rank fighter- Nonito Donaire Jr.
The 24 year-old fighter out of Las Vegas has known desires to fight for his first world title and a fight with Donaire Jr. will be a viable bout to make, owing to his ranking in the organization (WBO) and that both fighters belong to Bob Arum's Top Rank stable.
Perez of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, was assisted in the corner by former WBC Light Flyweight champion, Rodel Mayol and he will return to the Philippines with his 8th loss in 28 fights.
