INSIDE THE OMEGA GYM: WHO?S NEXT?

PhilBoxing.com

MANDAUE CITY,CEBU ? After a successful press launching last February 12, the boxers of the Omega gym train with a new found sense of purpose, eager to show their wares this March 6 in the inaugural presentation of the ?Who?s next?? Pro-boxing series.

The gym of the boxing arm of International Pharmaceuticals,Inc (IPI) used to be located in Baranggay Guizo in Mandaue City before they moved to Juan Luna Avenue in Cebu City. Last November, they returned to Mandaue City, this time in Barangay Bakilid.

One of the more interesting sparring sessions held Saturday afternoon featured undefeated prospect Jack Tepora (16-0,11KO?s), who will headline the March 6 card at the newly-built Robinson?s Galleria in Cebu. The 22 year old Tepora sparred with stablemate Gerry Castroverde (7-2, 4KOs) under the watchful eyes of his older brothers and trainers Pingping and Jingjing Tepora.

Tepora is penned to fight for the vacant WBO Youth Asia Pacific super bantamweight title. Vice president of Omega Pro Sports International Chad Ca?ares told this writer that he will reveal the full line-up of their fight card next week.

Another torrid sparring session involved former world title challenger Virgilio Silvano and Salatiel Amit.

Ca?ares spoke of the marked improvement of their boxers when they used the new training regimen employed by Dr. Rhoel Dejano, whose knowledg of sports science will certainly bring long term benefits for the Omega gym boxers.

The gym was bustling with activity, with pro fighters sparring, amateur boxers and kids who just started to learn the fundamentals of the fight game, braving the afternoon heat.

?The aim of ?Who?s next? is to provide boxers with a vehicle to showcase their talents,? Ca?ares told this writer during a visit to their gym Saturday, ?It will be up to the fans and to the sports scribes to decide, who among them has the talent and potential, who among them has what it takes to make it big. It will be up to the fans if they think a boxer has the potential to be the next boxing star.?

Ca?ares also spoke about his plans to stage a pro boxing tournament which will also serve as a means to search for new talent.

WHO?S NEXT? Pro Boxing Series is powered by the all new 2016 Tucson and presented by Omega Pro Sports International in association with Hyundai, Omega Pro Pain Killer Liniment and Robinson?s Galleria. Major partners are Harley Davidson of Cebu and Y101 Rhythm Always First.
