GONZALES, PORRAS, DAPUDONG SNATCH WBO TITLES

PhilBoxing.com

KIDAPAWAN CITY--Three local fighters were crowned new World Boxing Organization (WBO) regional title-holders here in the main bouts of the 'Triple Trouble' card Saturday night at the North Cotabato provincial gymnasium promoted by KingMaker Promotions and Rolando Hiso of Chicago.

Glenn 'Rapid Fire' Gonzales of the Braveheart Stable showed world-class talent in dispatching of Indonesia's Boido Simanjuntak in impressive fashion in the first round to win the WBO Asia Pacific Youth interim featherweight title.

International referee Bruce McTavish called an end to the fight at the 2:03 mark of the opening round after the visiting fighter was felled by a series of shots to the jaw, sending the jampacked stadium into pandemonium.

"Gonzales surprised me with his showing tonight. He is a world-class potential," said WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo, who supervised the bouts.

Another Braveheart fighter, Glenn Porras, showed ring savvy and superior lateral movement in outpointing another Indonesian fighter Marangin Marbun to win the WBO Asia Pacific Youth interim bantamweight crown.

Porras engaged Marbun in a give-and-take in the early going, but soon changed his strategy by outpointing the visitor en route to a 98-92, 99-91, 98-92 verdict.

The third Braveheart fighter, Edren Dapudong, used a terrific body attack to flatten Thailand's Sakmanee Sitkamnanchaliaw at the 2:46 mark of the second round to capture the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth minimumweight title.

The lanky Dapudong sent Sakmanee down twice, and referee Tony Pesons waved off the fight after his second trip to the canvas.

With their win, all three fighters, according to co-manager Rolando Hiso, will now travel to the United States to continue their training possibly in Chicago.
