A SLAM-BANG SATURDAY FOR THE LEAGUE OF FISTS

SHANGHAI, CHINA ? The bantamweight battle between Yelieqiati Nihemaituola and Xie Zhiquan gave fans one of the more attention-grabbing encounters in the League of Fists boxing tournament.

Both boxers ? with contrasting styles - have yet to taste defeat. Yelieqiati was showboating early on but managed to land clean counters. Xie stuck to his game plan; he continued to press to cut the ring off. Yelieqiati taunted then flicked, Xie sacrificed accuracy for volume; throwing everything when he cornered Yelieqiati.

The judges? tally underscored the closeness of the fight: Surat Soikrachang ? 39-37 for Xie, Zhu Yuwen ? 39-37 for Yelieqiati, Mekin Sumon ? 38-38.

Yelieqiati is now 4-0-1,0KO, Xie is 1-0-2.

Saturday night?s action inside the Mixing Room of the Mercedes Benz Arena was opened by the entertaining brawl between superlightweights Li Hongxin and Cheng Chaoyong. Li leaned on the knockdown he scored on Cheng with a hook during exchanges in the second round and won by unanimous decision. (Mekin Sumon ? 39-36,Yang Hong ? 39-36, Feng Yaocheng ? 38-35)

Peng Chao also got a unanimous nod against Ye Baofei in their bantamweight tussle. (Scores - Sungworn Klungboonkrong ? 39-37, Tao Zhedong ? 40-36, Ji Naibin ? 40-46)

In a hard fought superfeatherweight contest, Li Leshan prevailed by majority decision over Ma Qiang. (Scores ? Mekin Sumon ? 39-37, Yang Hong ? 39-37, Feng Yaocheng ? 38-38)

Super welterweight Luo Qiang sent Abuduailimu Aimaiti down on all fours in the opening round with a hard liver shot. Referee Atty. Danrex Tapdasan reached the count of ten at the 2:14 mark.

Li Weifang beat Dong Chuang by split decision in their superlightweight scuffle. (Scores : Danrex Tapdasan (39-37) and Zhu Yuwen (39-37) for Li, Feng Yaocheng (39-37) for Dong)
Maierdan Siyiti overpowered Xiao Xianwen and Xiao?s cornerman threw in the towel in the second round giving Maierdan the TKO win. Time ? 1:18.

Li Tonghui had difficulty figuring out Wang Shengyong early in the fight but Li?s power unraveled as the fight progressed and Wang continued to be on the back foot, receiving punches and not offering any resistance forcing Referee Surat Soikrachang to stop the fight at 2:50 of the third round.

Li is now 3-0,3KO?s in the tournament.

Huang Juxiang won by TKO in the second round against Diliyaer Anwaier, who was receiving several head blows and was bleeding from the nose when fight was stopped by Referee Han Hongxiang at the 1:55 mark.

The evening was capped by Pan Jinxiang beating Guo Jun by TKO in the third round. A flurry of hard punches sent Guo to the canvas. Referee Danrex Tapdasan stopped the fight at 1:21 of the third.

The League of Fists pro boxing tournament was launched last September and is presented by SECA and TOP RANK. The WBO will crown the tournament winners as the Greater China champions. The bouts were supervised and sanctioned by the Professional Boxing Commission (PBC) of China.
