PAEL AND AGUELO PREPARE FOR CRUCIAL FIGHTS

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY ? The Rex ?Wakee? Salud gym was bustling with activity Friday afternoon. Aside from the repetitive thudding of punches landing on the speed and heavy bags, there was a lot of chatter on who was fighting who and where.

The boxers sponsored by Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha were there doing their routine with two ? Renoel Pael and Adones Aguelo, gearing for all-important bouts.

The 25 year old Pael (19-1-1,9KO?s), who fights as Pael R. Singwangcha, will be getting a big break when he faces Ardin ?The Jackal? Diale of Metro Manila for the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) flyweight title on December 2. Four years ago Pael won the flyweight final of a boxing reality show ?Buhay Boksingero?. He was on a hot streak, with a 12-0-1 record when he suffered his lone career loss in Thailand ? a split decision ? to Noknoi Sitthiprasert for the WBC Silver international belt.

A couple of fights later, he won in his second stint overseas by beating Japanese Yuki Yonaha by unanimous decision in Kobe. Pael would continue to fight locally and capture an Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) belt along the way. His last fight in July was a third round knockout win over Renante Suacasa.

The 27 year old Diale (29-9-3, 15KO?s) will also try to bury the disappointment of his big fights as well as keeping his six fight winning streak alive. Four years ago, Diale lost to Mexican Julio Cesar Miranda by 4th round TKO in a WBO world flyweight title fight. A year later in a non-title contest, he was stopped in two rounds by Juan Francisco Estrada, who is now the WBO/WBA flyweight champ. Diale would lose in Thailand in a WBO Oriental title fight and another loss to Koki Eto in Japan for the OPBF title.

But in between the losses, Diale has beaten Filipino prospects like Mar Jhun Macahilig, Lolito Sonsona, Cris Paulino and foreign foes Kaichon Sor Vorapin, Yuta Matsuo and Heri Amol.

Pael was one of the sparring partners of Hong Kong boxing star Rex Tso. He is a skilled boxer but he will have to keep his reflexes and defense sharp against the power-hitting Diale come December.

Trainer Brix Flores, who handles both Pael and Aguelo, told this writer that Aguelo received an offer to fight in Las Vegas. The 27 year old Aguelo (24-12-2,16KO?s), who now fights as Aguelo A. Singwangcha, is a known crowd pleaser here in the Visayas but has had hard luck in most of his overseas outings. In his last fight, he lost to Australian Will Tomlinson by majority decision at the Melbourne Pavilion. Aguelo also suffered losses in Mexico to Nery Saguilan, Sergio Thompson and Adrian Estrella. Aguelo has seen action in Japan, with a couple of wins and a draw as his best showing. In between, he has captured the ABF title and remains someone who will give a really good fight.

The name Casey Ramos was mentioned as the opponent for November. Ramos has an impressive 20-0,5KO record and boxrec has him facing Antonio Capulin on November 20. An appearance in the U.S. would be a huge break for Aguelo, who has been tagged by boxing insiders here in Cebu as someone who has had his share of ups and downs but is a solid fighter who cannot be taken for granted.
