RESULTS FROM LA FIGHT CLUB SEP 4 EDITION By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sat, 05 Sep 2015 Golden Boy Promotions in cooperation with Corona and Ring TV presented its monthly fight card at the Belasco Theater early this evening. The event was streamed for the first time on Ring TV and was carried live by Estrella TV. Mexicali, Mexico?s undefeated featherweight prospect, Diego de la Hoya (12-0-0,7KO) was featured in the main event against a former world title challenger Jesus ?Estrella? Ruiz (32-7-5,21KO of Nogales, MX (top photo). In the past, as his handlers carefully nurtured his career, De La Hoya was matched against fighters he easily handled. In fact, he KO?d 7 of them. But tonight, against a wily veteran in Ruiz, he finally met someone who took him to the very deep waters and his face showed the results of matching him with better opponents. In the end however, De La Hoya came out victorious winning by unanimous decision with the scores as follows: 100-90,100-90, and 99-91. With the win, De La Hoya captures the vacant WBC Youth Featherweight title. In the supporting main event, former two-time Brazilian Olympian, Everton Lopes (4-0-0, 1KO) was dropped twice, once in round 2 and then in round 5, but he managed to salvage a split decision (75-74, 75-74 and 75-75) against Omar Tienda (13-1-0, 8KO) of Nuevo Leon, MX. From our perspective on the ringside, the fight was at best a draw. In the first TV fight, undefeated featherweight Christian Gonzalez (11-0-0, 10KO) of Los Angeles once again showed why his record is immaculate by knocking down a late substitute, Luis Lizarraga (5-6-1, 2KO) of Merida, MX. Gonzales threw a hard right that landed on the button knocking down Lizarraga who managed to beat the count. However, his corner saw enough and asked the ref to halt the fight. Time :2:09 in round 2. Other results: Ivan Delgado (7-0-1, 2KO) wins via a Unanimous decision over Thomas Herrera (4-13-1, 1KO) of Tucson, AZ. Scores were all 60-54. Rafael Gramajo (5-1-1, 2KO) of Los Angeles outlast Adrien Rodriguez (1-7-1, 0KO) of Gudalajara, MX and wins by a UD. Scores were all -58-56. Jonathan Navarro (2-0-0, 1KO) of Los Angeles Gibran Gutierrez who was making his pro debut knocking him down twice in round 1 and eventually winning by UD. Scores were all 40-33.
