LEAGUE OF FISTS FIRES UP THE MERCEDES-BENZ ARENA

SHANGHAI,CHINA ? The League of Fists, a tournament style professional boxing competition involving fighters from mainland China, had its inaugural fight card Friday at the Mixing Room of Shanghai?s Mercdes-Benz Arena. Twenty boxers ranging from 118 to 154 lbs engaged in four round bouts.

The event was opened by the bantamweight match between Yelieqiati Nihemaituola vs Gao Jiyang.

Yelieqiati showed Mayweather-like moves in winning a unanimous decision. The scores of judges Salven Lagumbay, Yang Hong and Feng Yao Cheng were all 39-37.

Lin Liquan beat Gao Zhongliang by TKO in the 4th and final round. Referee Danrex Tapdasan stopped the fight when an exhausted Gao was receiving an accumulation of hard punches.

Ye Rongchen won by unanimous decision over Liu Yahui. The second round was costly for Liu, who has knocked down and then was deducted a point for flailing his arm and throwing a backhand punch. The scores ? Salven Lagumbay ? 40-34,Yu Bin ? 40-34,Yan Wen Yong ? 39-35.

Li Tonghui beat Tian Kun Ling by TKO after Tian?s corner signaled that their boxer will not answer the bell for the third round.

Ji Tao knocked down Yang Fan in the second round and dominated him with hard punches. Scores ? Danrex Tapdasan, Yu Bin and Yan Wen Yong all had it 40-35.

The keenly contested bout between Lin Jiacheng and Xie Zhiquan ended in a unanimous draw. Judges Samson Iu, Salven Lagumbay and Yu Bin all had it 38-38.

The bout between Dilixiati and Lin Guoji was a technical draw after an accidental clash of heads in the third opened a cut on the right eyelid of Dilixiati. Judges Han Hongxiang, Feng Yao Cheng and Sungworn Klungboonkrong had it 29 all.

Alimu Tuerson beat Maimaiti Keyimu by unanimous verdict. Referee Han Hongxian deducted a point from Maimaiti in the last round for repeatedly spitting out his mouthpiece. The scorecards read ? Yan Wen Hong ? 39-36,Yu Bin ? 40-36,Samson Iu ? 39-35. Niu Kangkang won by majority decision over Hu Hongian. Scores ? Atty.Danrex Tapdasan ? 39-37, Feng Yao Cheng ? 38-38, Yang Hong ? 40-36.

In the final bout of the night, a hard clash of heads in the opening round resulted in a no contest between junior middleweights Su Cheng and Wulamu Tulake. Wulamu was face first on the canvas after being knocked down by the headbutt. He stood up on on very unsteady legs and was a bit confused. He also complained of pain on the side of his head and was assessed to have a concussion which resulted in the fight being immediately stopped by referee Danrex Tapdasan.

The second batch of LEAGUE OF FIST boxers will clash Saturday September 5, still at the same venue.
