DACQUEL FACES SOUTH AFRICAN CHAMPION FOR IBO INTERNATIONAL SUPER FLYWEIGHT TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

Former Philippine super flyweight champion Rene ?Commander? Dacquel will face South Africa?s flyweight champion Thembelani Nxoshe for the IBO International super flyweight title in South Africa on August 28.

The 24 year old Dacquel who has a record of 14-5-1 with 5 knockouts lost his Philippine title to Jonas Sultan by a twelve round unanimous decision last July 11 at the Mandaluyong City Gym in a fight telecast by Viva Sports on ?The Main Event? over Pinoy Box Office on Sky Cable.

Nxoshe who has a record of 13-5-1 with 3 knockouts stunned highly favored Doctor Ntsele to lift the vacant South African flyweight title at the Mdantsane Sports Center last November 10.
Boxing writer Mesuli Zifo reported that ?coming to the fight Nxoshe was a dark horse despite compiling a 20-fight record with only three defeats while Ntsele, who hails from Free State but has lately made the Eastern Cape his second home, came with a great deal of clout having owned the same title before he was dethroned by Mdantsane?s Lwandile Sityatha.

Ntsele had also given unbeaten Mdantsane star Makazole Tete a tough fight in their WBA Pan African flyweight title clash last March.

With Tete having abdicated the crown to focus his attention on the international scene, Ntsele was favoured to regain the crown.
In a report on the fight, Zifo said Nxoshe started confidently as he landed looping right hands on the totally bewildered former champion.

Ntsele could not quite figure out the style of his opponent allowing Nxoshe to seize the opportunity to pile up points as he landed big bombs even though some missed due to his poor judgment of distance.

Ntsele roared back to the fight in the third round when Nxoshe lost his balance due to the slipperiness of his boxing boots.
Buoyed by the partisan crowd, Nxoshe, who had former world champion Vuyani Bungu in the corner, continued to dominate the rounds until the eighth round when he suddenly appeared to be losing his bearings.

Ntsele took control of the proceedings as he rained in a flurry of punches, many of which landed flush.

In this round Nxoshe absorbed heavy punches capped by a sweeping left hook which caused him to spin 360 degrees as the bell sounded.

The pair continued to trade big bombs in the following round with Nxoshe again getting the upper hand.

Despite seemingly losing his rhythm, Ntsele continued to fight on but Nxoshe upped the tempo en route to a majority decision win even though judge Allen Matakane, who scored the fight 115-115, appeared off the mark.

But fortunately justice prevailed as the other two judges had the fight 116-112 which reflected the proceedings in the ring, and 116-114 respectively.
