My interview with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Sat, 25 Jul 2015
CHICAGO -- With a net worth of $3 billion, Mark Cuban is the 603rd richest man in the planet, according to Forbes.com
The 56-year old business mogul makes money in his sleep. He is the chairman of AXS TV and he owns Landmark Theaters. Cuban also co-owns 2929 Entertainment.
But to NBA fans all over the globe, Cuban, who stars in the TV show "The Shark Tank" and the Syfy movie "Sharrknado 3", is best known as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks.
Despite his unbelievably busy schedule, one that pulls him in various directions every minute, Cuban found time to talk to PhilBoxing via email early this week.
I've emailed him twice before and he has always been gracious with his time. I've also met him on several occasions when I travel and cover Mavericks games during the course of the long NBA season
The interview centered on Bobby Ray Parks Jr., who suited up for the Mavericks in the just-concluded 2015 Summer League. A Filipino-American and the son of the legendary Bobby Parks Sr., the younger Parks is seeking to become the first home grown talent from the Philippines to scale the NBA.
For now, though, that climb appears to be really steep.
"It's hard to say at this point," said Cuban about Parks' prospects of earning a roster spot with the Mavs. It's a decision which will be made by "all the coaches and GM together," Cuban added.
Despite a slow start (1 point in his first three games) and despite logging limited playing time (63 minutes and 16 seconds in six games), Parks acquitted himself well and submitted 18 points and 10 rebounds throughout the tournament.
Parks converted 54.5 percent of his field goals and 75 percent of his free throws. He did not attempt a 3-point shot.
Cuban said Parks "proved he had an NBA skill level."
If a roster spot with the Mavs isn't available Parks can still enter the NBA through the backdoor, via the Texas Legends of the NBA D-League.
Bobby Ray Parks is currently in Indianapolis, Indiana staying in shape and staying sharp.
The dream continues.
