BOXING PROMOTER WANTS MEETING WITH GAB CHAIRMAN TO DISCUSS BAD EXPERIENCES IN THAILAND By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 01 Jul 2015 In the face of the disgraceful actions of Thailand?s IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng who resorted to all sorts of illegal actions in the ring in a foul-filled, ugly title defense against mandatory challenger and former light flyweight champion Johnreil Casimero at the Hua Mark Stadium in Bangkok last Saturday, well known Filipino promoter and boxing manager Dante Almario has requested a meeting with chairman Ramon Guanzon of the Games and Amusements Board to discuss the recent activities in Thailand. Almario made the request after consulting some managers, promoters, matchmakers and boxers and in the wake of a series of articles by respected American boxing writers and commentators and their Filipino counterparts blasting Ruenroeng for his foul tactics and American referee Larry Doggett whose performance was a disgrace. In his letter to chairman Guanzon, promoter Almario said ?we feel it is about time to discuss with each other what is really happening to our boxers fighting outside our country. More particularly in Thailand.? He told the GAB chairman ?you may have noticed and observed that a majority of our Filipino fighters who fight in Thailand receive a very small purse but experience very unfair and biased decisions at the hands of the Thai judges and referees.? Almario said ?we must unite and do something to stop these practices that have been a problem of Filipino boxers for more than a decade,? He suggested that these issues be raised at the various annual conventions of the WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO. Almario said that should the GAB decide to conduct a consultation meeting that some managers, promoters, matchmakers and of course ?boxers whom we know suffered bad experiences in Thailand.
