PACQUIAO ASSISTANT TRAINER CONFINED AND RELEASED FROM LAS VEGAS HOSPITAL By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Sat, 09 May 2015 Neri. LOS ANGELES, Cal. -- Nonoy Neri, one of Manny Pacquiao's assistant trainers, has been released from a Las Vegas hospital where he was confined for five days following an attack of hypertension caused by his congestive heart disease on the day the Filipino ring superstar fought and lost to undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr. Neri, who doubles up as nutritionist and dietician in the deposed World Boxing Organization welterweight belt-owner's team, was rushed to the University Medical Center last Saturday when he collapsed in his hotel room just hours before Pacquiao was to trade blows against Mayweathrer. Because of the health scare, he wasn't able to watch the fight. Nonoy was discharged by attending physicians Wednesday and was sent back to Los Angeles the same day. He is scheduled to fly back to Manila Saturday with several members of Team Pacquiao. "He was doing well since coming out of the hospital," Texas based doctor Allan Recto told this writer, adding that he has been attending to the patient since arriving here. "His kidneys were also affected but his condition is now stable due to a cocktail of drugs he is now taking", the doctor added. "Yeah, he can travel by plane to Manila without danger of complications," Dr. Recto assured. "Nonoy's condition should be monitored though regularly in Manila." Dr. Recto said that the two-month training Team Pacquiao had undergone at the Wild Card Gym here in the run-up to what was dubbed the "Fight of the Century" might be a contributing factor to the assistant trainer's present health condition. "Sobra kasi ang pressure sa training camp while Manny was preparing for the fight," Dr. Recto assessed. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Eddie Alinea. |
