FLOYD OPEN TO PACQUIAO REMATCH By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Wed, 06 May 2015 Will there be a sequel to 'The Fight of the Century'? Three days after Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Manny Pacquiao by Unanimous Decision in their welterweight unification match last Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the unbeaten champion stated that he is willing to give Pacquiao another chance to redeem himself. "I will fight him in a year after his surgery," Mayweather texted ESPN's Stephen A. Smith. This comes after recent revelations that Pacquiao entered the fight Saturday with an injured right shoulder. Pacquiao will undergo surgery to repair a "significant tear" in his right rotator cuff this week. Pacquiao and his team are under media and public scrutiny after failing to disclose the injury in a timely manner. The Nevada State Athletic Commission ( NSAC ) will also be looking at the paper work filed by Team Pacquiao before the fight where they denied any existing injury. The Filipino star may face disciplinary action from the commission for the non-disclosure of the injury which is mandated by NSAC. Pacquiao is likely to miss action for a considerable amount of time after the surgery. The orthopedic surgeon that they visited Monday estimated that he will need 9 to 12 months to recover from the injury and operation, which includes rehabilitation after his operation. If Mayweather Jr. waits for Pacquiao's recovery and fights him in 2016, this will move back his planned retirement after his final fight in the fall. Mayweather Jr. stated after the fight that he is intent on fighting his final fight on September of this year. You can reach the author at rrmaze24@aol.com and is on Twitter @Freemazon910.
