POOR SPORT, ?MAYWEATHER-PACQUIAO? IS ALL BUSINESS AND PROFIT By Reni M. Valenzuela PhilBoxing.com Sat, 11 Apr 2015  There?s no end to greed. The May 2 event is historic, but people start losing interest in the fight notwithstanding the popular boxers involved in it. The Mega Bout could be headed to a great disappointment and the biggies in both the camps of Manny ?Pacman? Pacquiao and Floyd ?Money? Mayweather, together with those of the giant networks, have only themselves to blame. ?Greed is so destructive. It destroys everything.? - Eartha Kitt ?Pac-Floyd? is turning out to be purely pure business. And so the producers set the pay-per-view, venue and other prices at an avaricious level with just their pockets and bank accounts to consider. It appears that ?Mayweather-Pacquiao? is meant exclusively for elite millionaires. The fans are left out or set to become bait for sharks that lurk in shallow waters. The boxing matchup is not about boxing anymore, neither is it about Pacquiao and Mayweather. It?s all profit, profit and profit. Hence the infighting continues to this day as the potential earnings of the show continue to grab headlines. ?He who is greedy is always in want.? - Horace The press gimmicks seem to be ?working? and ?effective.? Media is again being used and abused because the producers know, by ?free media,? they can save millions of dollars in press tours, paid advertisements and promotions, everything to their own advantage. ?Nagkamali po sila.? I have been offered or bribed. But can I betray my Lord and ruin my soul? Who are you? No tyrant can bribe nor intimidate me. I?ve been writing since college days and been into business for years. But, oh, I?ve not been into bribery and never succumbed to threats. There was not even a single instance that I bribed a traffic officer on the road to get off the hook. I don?t write for money as I keep saying. And I intend to write only as the inspiration comes and for as long as the Holy Spirit leads. God is my stronghold. Even before it reaches its hype-peak, ?Mayweather-Pacquiao? may be destined for damn and doom. We call it the richest fight ever, but who are the very few who are becoming ever richer and filthier? The ?Mayweather-Pacquiao? must redeem itself soonest to become historic in a good sense. Media must stand up and be counted to correct the wrong. As a matter of fact, in a fight of this magnitude, boxing media and scribes ought to have their fair share of the crop. Note that without media, ?Pac-Floyd? may be equal to zero. The subject can be a cause for crusade and may be tackled subsequently by media itself - to awaken drunken ?promoters? and ?cash cows,? and thereby render justice to everyone. ?Selfishness and greed, individual or national, cause most of our troubles.? - Harry Truman.
