SONSONA CONTINUES TOUGH U.S. TRAINING By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Wed, 08 Apr 2015 World ranked featherweight Marvin Sonsona is now past his second month of training in the United States. The former WBO super flyweight champion spent time in Las Vegas early February under conditioning coach Memo Heredia for a week of light workouts. Last February 23, Sonsona, together with former IBF world jr.flyweight champ, John Riel Casimero, and trainer Jun Agrabio, went to Big Bear and trained at the Shane Mosley Boxing Gym for almost a month where they had a more rigorous training program with Heredia.They experienced training in a high altitude area with snow. They had sparring sessions with the boxers of Shane Mosley and Mosley himself. Promoter Sammy Gello-ani updated philboxing on the progress of the Gensan southpaw and said that in his two months stay in America, Sonsona has become more focused and determined to regain the glory that was once his. Gello-ani informed that when Sonsona and Casimero returned to Las Vegas, Sampson Lewkowicz, the international promoter of Sonsona and Casimero, housed them in a three-bedroom apartment fully furnished with computer at their disposal to contact their family in the Philippines when they get homesick. To add to their comfort and convenience, Sampson provided Sonsona a BMW sedan for his use. One of the changes noted on Sonsona was that he keeps his apartment very clean and cooks his own food, which he does very well. The 24 year old Sonsona (19W-1L-1D,15KO?s) promised Sampson Lewkowicz that he?ll stay in the U.S. for a year. He has requested his Philippine promoter, Samson Gello-ani to take care of his sick mother who might be needing a kidney operation anytime this week. Sonsona has two victories last year, a stunning third round one punch KO against Akifumi Shimoda of Japan in Macau and a revenge split verdict against the man who gave him his only loss, Wilfredo Vazquez,Jr of Puerto Rico in Madison Square Garden.
