NBA -- Celtics end 3-game slide, blow out Nets, 110-91 By Vadim Atbashyan PhilBoxing.com Tue, 24 Mar 2015 BROOKLYN -- In a battle between playoff-contending teams, the Boston Celtics pounded the Brooklyn Nets, 110-91 on Monday night at the Barclays Center. Evan Turner led the charge with a triple-double effort of 19 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Center Tyler Zeller added 18 points and 7 boards as the Celtics arrested a three-game slide and moved into 8th place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 31-39 record. "I was really pleased with how we responded to losing a tough one last night and then playing not great the first 6 minutes of the game. We just responded," Celtics head said Brad Stevens said during his post-game press conference. Kelly Olynyk finished with 18, while Brandon Bass and Jonas Jerebko pitched in 12 and points respectively for the Celtics, who made 47 of their 92 field goals and 6 of their 22 threes. The Nets were on the crest of a two-game win streak entering Monday night's duel, but they couldn't keep the run going after making only 32 of 89 shots, including a tepid 1-for-17 fare from 3-point range. The Celtics pulled away for good in the fourth quarter and an Avery Bradley dunk with 1:21 to go put the outcome beyond doubt, 108-91. Brook Lopez led the Nets with 31 points while Deron Williams fell short on a triple-double quest with 10 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds. Thaddeus Young contributed 12 points but no other Net logged double figures in points. Despite the debacle, the 29-40 Nets are a mere 1 1/2 games behind in the race for the last playoffs berth in the Eastern Conference. Up next for the Nets is a trip to Charlotte to face the Hornets while the Celtics will host the Miami Heat on Wednesday. Deron Williams (L) came 1 rebound shy of a triple-double in the Nets' 110-91 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Vadim Atbashyan. |
