CONCERN OVER CONDES’ IBF TITLE FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

The Indonesian handlers of IBF minimum weight champion Muhammad Rachman claim they have not yet received the signed contract of mandatory challenger Florante Condes of the Philippines for the scheduled June 16 title fight in Jakarta.

The manager of Rachman, Martinez dos Santos told Fight News that the April 20 deadline for getting the signed contracts of both fighters had passed and they are still “eagerly awaiting” the signed contract of Condes who is co-managed by Aljoe Jaro and American Dante Ortiz. The manager of Rachman said he didn’t know why there was no contract as yet.

The manager said that while waiting for the signed contract of Condes they were, “at the same time also finding other opponents for Rachman.”

Viva Sports/Manila Standard earlier received the copy of a letter sent to Leon Margueles of Warrior Boxing Promotions who won the purse bid for the mandatory title defense of Rachman against the hard-hitting Philippine champion Condes from IBF Championship Chairman Lindsey Tucker Jr .

In his letter Tucker said the IBF has “given formal sanction” for the mandatory title defense on June 16 in Jakarta and that IBF president Marian Muhammad “will be in touch with you concerning the sanctioning fees and will contact you with the names of the officials.”

Tucker earlier informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that the winning bid of Warriors Boxing Promotions was $25,000. Under the accepted ratio of 85 percent for the champion and 15 percent for the challenger Condes will get a measly $3,750 while Rachman will be entitled to a very low purse of $21,250 Tucker said there was only one outfit that met the deadline for the purse bid set by the IBF.

The co-manager of Condes, Dante Ortiz said the results of the purse bid was “a big surprise and a big mistake.” He did not elaborate.

Tucker said the IBF called a purse bid after the promoter of Condes, Bobby Bostick, Sampson Lewkowicz and the handlers of Rachman failed to come to terms after lengthy negotiations with Rachman’s camp demanding a ridiculously high purse of $75,000 to fight Condes in the US.

Rachman was planning on a unification bout against WBO champion Ivan Calderon but the IBF stepped in and directed the champion to first defend his title against the heavy-handed Condes who is 26 years old and has a record of 20 knockouts in 21 wins with 3 losses and 1 draw.

Rachmann is coming off a seventh round TKO victory over another Filipino Benjie Sorolla last December 23. Rachman won the title on September 14, 2004 with a split decision victory over Daniel Reyes in Jakarta. Rachman is 35 years old and has a record of 61-5-5 with 20 knockouts.

A devastating puncher Condes won the Philippine minimum weight title on December 10, 2005 with a sixth round KO over Philip Parcon who was dropped in rounds four and six. Among his three losses was a split decision to Sorolla on May 1m 2005.
