Tapales to fight Buhawe in Tibay ng Pinoy 6

PhilBoxing.com

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Marlon Tapales of Lanao del Norte will face Jecker Buhawe of Lipa City in the undercard of the Tibay ng Pinoy 6 on January 31 at the Almendras gym in Davao City.

Tapales and Buhawe will fight in a 10-round non-title bout according to promoter Joven Jimenez.

The 22-year old Tapales, a.k.a. "Maranding Nightmare", retained his title in his first title-defense last June 28 via a unanimous decision against Fadhili Majiha at the Mindanao Civic Center Gym in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

Tapales, who is now training at the MP Boxing Gym in Davao City, won the said vacant title by outclassing Fredirex Rodriguez at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel last August 1, 2013.

Last year, Tapales also outclassed Thailand's Galih Susanto by a unanimous decision at the Almendras gym on Feb. 8. He also beat Japanese Hayato Kimura by a 5th round technical decision in Ishikawa, Japan last April 13.

Tapales, however, bowed to Mexican David Sanchez by a majority decision for the interim WBC superflyweight title in Mexico. Tapales' current record is 26 wins with 9 knockouts against 2 loses and no draw.

Buhawe, 24, on the other hand, is toting 16 wins (10 KOs), 10 loses and 1 draw. But he won his last two fights against Jeffrey Jimenez by a 2nd round technical knockout last Oct. 26 in Lanao del Norte and over Jeson Umbal by a split decision last Dec. 13 in Mindoro Occidental.

Buhawe, however, lost to Thailand's Tepparith Kokiet Gym on points for the interim WBC Asian Boxing Council superflyweight title last May 10, 2013.

"Buhawe is coming from back-to-back wins in his last two fights. Hindi puede mag kumpiyansa sa kanya si Tapales," said MP Davao Boxing Gym head trainer Raides "Nonoy" Neri.

The Tibay ng Pinoy 6 boxing card co-presented by the MP Promotions and Jimenez Sports Promotion will feature two championship fights between the Philippines against Thailand.
WBC Asian Boxing Council light welterweight champion Adones Cabalquinto Adones Cabalquinto of Talaingod, Davao del Norte will face Denkamon Pakdee Gym of Thailand for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Asia Junior welterweight title while Aston Palicte takes on Jomyuthlek Sor Narongchai for the vacant IBF World Youth superflyweight crown.

Admission is again free to the public. It is sponsored by the Victorywille Mitsubishi, South Coast Mitsubishi, Huntington Beach Mitsubishi, Cerritos Mitsubishi, Pepsi, Gatorade, The Royal Mandaya Hotel and city government of Davao. -- LITO DELOS REYES
