NBA -- Wizards drop Pels behind Wall's 12 assists

New Orleans ? John Wall had only a modest 15 points but his 12 assists helped the Washington Wizards beat the New Orleans Pelicans, 92-85, at the Smoothie King Center.

After being sidelined by a shoulder injury for six weeks, Eric Gordon returned to the lineup and finished with six points, five assists and four rebounds in 32 minutes and 52 seconds of playing time.

The loss dropped the Pelicans further down the Western Conference standings. At 17-17, the Pelicans are in ninth place and two games behind the 20-16 Phoenix Suns for the eighth and last playoffs berth in the West.

?A couple of times we got the steal and we gave it right back. We had 18 turnovers. Defensively tonight, I thought they were really physical and took us out of our rhythm.? Pelicans head coach Monty Williams told reporters his post game interview.

?It?s tough, 18 turnovers. We?re trying to make the right play. That?s the big part of the game, to make sure that we will take care of the ball and make more positions.? Pelicans forward Anthony Davis added.

Davis had double-double performance -- 21 points and 10 rebounds ---but it wasn't enough. Tyreke Evans added 21 points and seven boards.

while Jrue Holiday, who reached the 5,000 points milestone, delivered 13 points and five assists.

The victory kept the 23-11 Wizards in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. (AIJ)
