NBA -- Pistons clobber ailing Knicks, 97-81 By Ben Paz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 Jan 2015 NEW YORK -- With five players sidelined, including Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire who both had sore knees, the New York Knicks couldn't handle the streaking Detroit Pistons, who won going away, 97-81, on Friday night at Madison Square Garden. Since releasing John Smith on December 22, the Pistons have won four in a row, bumping their record to 9-23, 13th place in the Eastern Conference but just a manageable 4.5 games behind the 14-19 Miami Heat for 8th place and a playoffs berth in the Eastern Conference. Brandon Jennings led Detroit with 29 points and single-handedly outscored the entire Knicks team in the third quarter, 16-14. Andre Drummond, the league's No.2 rebounder this season, continued his dominance on the glass with 20 rebounds to go with his seven points. Greg Monroe had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Jodie Meeks contributed 15 points off the bench. "Tonight was my night, the next night it could be someone else's night. We have a lot of guys on this team we can feed off of" Jennings said of the team's performance. New York increased its losing streak to 10 and have now lost 20 of their last 21 games to drop to 5-30 overall, the second worst record in the NBA. JR Smith led the Knicks with 22 points while Cole Aldrich had 11 points and 14 boards. The rest of the Knicks struggled offensively as the Knicks shot just 35.2 percent while allowing the Pistons to score 46 points in the paint and convert 50 percent of their field goals. "If things don't go well offensively, the defensive energy isn't there... They had more energy than we had tonight" said Derek Fisher. The Pistons, hoping to continue their winning ways, travel home to play the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night. Meanwhile, the Knicks will try to pull out a winwhen they host the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday at the Garden.
