NEW ORLEANS ? The New Orleans Pelicans preyed on the visiting Houston Rockets, 111-83, on Friday night in front of a very loud crowd at the Smoothie King Center.
Ryan Anderson made 9-of-14 shots to lead the Pelicans with 22 while Tyreke Evans added 21. New Orleans shot 53.8 percent from the field (44-of-83) and led by as many as 32 points in the second half.
Anthony Davis logged only 30 minutes for New Orleans and contributed seven points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Dante Cunningham and Jimmer Fredette added 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Pels.
"We made the right plays defensively and it led to easy points," Anderson said. "We just controlled the game for 48 minutes."
?That?s not what we are focused on. Our focus is the way we play and the way we execute our offense.? Pelicans head coach Monty Williams said as he addressed the fact that the Rockets pulled out their starters in the third quarter.
The Pelicans bench outscored the Rockets reserves 59-47. New Orleans flexed its defensive muscle and showed the strength of its length by blocking eight shots..
The neighboring Rockets made only 35 of 88 shots (39.8 percent). Dwight Howard was held to 12 points and five rebounds while James Harden finished with 11. Corey Brewer had 12.
