NBA -- Nets dispatch slumping Pistons, 110-105
By Ben Paz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 23 Dec 2014
BROOKLYN -- The Brooklyn Nets foiled a late rally by the Detroit Pistons to win 110-105 on Sunday night at the Barclays Center.
The Nets snapped a three-game losing streak and improve to 11-15 while the slumping pistons lose their fourth straight and are 5-23, the third worst record in the NBA.
Brooklyn played without the injured Deron Williams and held the lead for most of the night. Detroit however, would not back down and went on a 14-4 run with five minutes remaining. The Pistons forced a turnover with 24.9 seconds but Jodie Meeks airballed the potential go ahead 3-pointer. Brooklyn calmly made all their free throws in the closing seconds while Brandon Jennings missed a three pointer and Josh Smith went 0-2 to seal Detroit's fate.
Mason Plumlee, still starting in place of injured Brook Lopez, led all scorers with 21 points (9-10 shooting) while also grabbing 12 rebounds. Joe Johnson had 16 points and seven assists. Jarrett Jack, who started for Deron Williams had 15 points and 10 assists, while Mirza Teletovic and Bojan Bogdanovic combined for 27 points off of the Nets' bench.
"I thought the brand of basketball we put out there was very contagious... it was an enjoyable brand of basketball" Jack said
Andre Drummond had a huge night, posting 18 points and 20 rebounds. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 20 points while Josh Smith had 13 points. Greg Monroe posted another productive stat line off the bench with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Detroit has several days of rest before their next matchup, Friday versus the Indiana Pacers. Brooklyn plays on Monday night against the Denver Nuggets. (BP)
