NBA -- Mavericks beat Spurs in Rondo's debut
By Doreen Mendez PhilBoxing.com Mon, 22 Dec 2014

SAN FRANCISCO -- Rajon Rondo had an uneventful debut as a Dallas Maverick, hitting only 3-of-11 field goals for 11 points, six rebounds and nine assists.
But Monta Ellis was a different story.
The Mavericks' other starting guard went on fire for 38 points as Dallas beat a game but depleted San Antonio Spurs, 99-93, at the American Airlines Arena.
"I felt it. It's in my blood. Those guys were tired last night and their defense let up, so we took advantage," Ellis said while alluding to the Spurs who lost in triple-overtime to the Portland Trail Blazers the night before squaring off with the Mavs.
Chandler Parsons finished with 16 points and 11 boards while Dirk Nowitzki managed to score 13 despite missing 10 of 15 field goals. Dallas shot only 43 percent from the field (37 of 86) but they sank 9 of 26 triples.
Aron Baynes has 16 and 10 rebounds for the Spurs, who played without Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Tiago Splitter, Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. San Antonio was a miserable 32 of 77 form the field and they missed 10 of 13 threes.
At 20-8, the Mavericks currently occupy fifth place in the Western Conference while the 17-11 Spurs are in seventh place. (DM)
