HOPKINS A WONDER TO WATCH; THE HALF-SOLVED “MAYWEATHER VS. PACQUIAO”

By Reni M. Valenzuela

When a boxer or athlete runs out of gas during a competition, it’s almost always like reaching the point of surrender for the same boxer or athlete (not the “apostates”). Stamina is crucial in athletics, and in life. But stamina springs forth from the inner soul (for those who have souls), aside from muscles and cardiovascular.

An on-going fight in boxing today requires endurance wherein stamina could be the deciding factor. This is a fight that is much bigger than “Ali vs. Frazier” or “Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.” One that calls for the people to stay tough and fastened; to never get tire of boycotting ring “shows” that accomplish nothing but bring familiar sorts of contaminating viruses to sicken the sport and everyone involved in it.
It is a battle that the people will have to wage with single-mindedness against the “apostates” who so enjoy perpetuating their “kingship” over everything compelling, right and reasonable in prize fighting. The durable 49 year old Bernard Hopkins, though, would be a wonder to watch tomorrow.

Whoever says the long-awaited Mega Bout is impossible to happen must be racking his brain about figuring out a solution to an already half-solved “algebraic” problem equal to one plus one. The fans and people have succeeded doing their part in the just and justly concluded “Pacquiao vs. Bradley II.” The UNTAMPERED Pay-Per-View results for the said rematch, though yet to be announced, would stare at all of us to tell that boxing is on its way to healing itself.

Golden Boy Oscar Dela Hoya’s open declaration of his willingness recently to reconcile with Pacquiao’s “astute” promoter is tantamount to restoring sight to the born-blind Bartimaeus. Bob Arum echoing the call to boycott the “Mayweather-Maidana” immediately after the “Pacquiao-Bradley II” means the childish is ripe and ready to pick the biblical fig fruit that is “Pac vs. Floyd” even for one time late this year, with Top Rank as co-promoter.

News or rumors of Pacquiao getting out of Top Rank when his contract with the latter expires in December makes us hear sounds of Armageddon between great current boxers for “super fight” productions in the near future.

Showtime “pressuring” Mayweather to agree fighting Pacquiao is Moses urging Pharaoh to free the Israelites. The reported gate earnings of the “Pacquiao-Bradley II,” being worst in years and in several past fights of Pacman, may be the first among the ten plagues that hit Egypt in the olden times.

And people boycotting the May 3 show (down) between Money Mayweather and Marcos Maidana is the parting of the Red Sea for boxing.

Salvation is coming soon.

Take heart.

“… let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” - Galatians 6:9
