Summer Heat Meltdown in Halifax, Marc “Gwapo” Pagcaliwangan Wins by Knockout Against David Kanalas

When you see a young fighter develop with each fight before your very eyes, you see that all the hard work, dedication and sacrifice is paying off one fight at a time. He is well on his way, the jitters and stage fright are long gone because Pagcaliwangan has fought on the road from the smallest to the largest fight cards held in Canadian soil. Behind the scenes, there has been many challenges and unexpected twist and turns in Pagcaliwangan’s young career. However at the end of the day, the 23 year old Filipino-Canadian accomplishes his mission to win and get better with his performance one fight at a time.

Marc “Gwapo” Pagcaliwangan has only boxed 9 rounds within six fights, the opponents he has faced to date has a total 141 rounds accumulated, 24 wins with 13 wins by knockout. David Kanalas was the most experienced boxer Pagcaliwangan has faced to date with 65 rounds boxed and 13 wins.

When the bell rang Marc “Gwapo” Pagcaliwangan came out from his corner and patiently hunted down Kanalas with crisp jabs for the first 90 seconds of the first round. The pressure and jabs that landed on Kanalas sent the 21 year old Hungarian reeling towards the ropes, his defence succumbed to timely body shots thrown by Pagcaliwangan. Kanalas desperately swung for the fences with his right hand, however it had no effect on Pagcaliwangan as he was able to slip from Kanalas attempt to connect with a haymaker. At the end of the first round, Kanalas was winded, it would only be a matter of time before Pagcaliwangan carves out his opponent.

When the second round started, Pagcaliwangan smelled blood and quickly sets himself up in the middle of the ring. Pagcaliwangan opened up his arsenal with a couple of combinations that connected and drained Kanalas with a couple of thundering body shots that came from both sides and sent Kanalas to the canvas.

Kanalas survived the knockdown and got up after the 8 count. He was still game to fight on although he never recovered from the knockdown. The referee mercifully stopped the fight in the second round granting Pagcaliwangan’s sixth consecutive victory inside the distance.

Pagcaliwangan’s Manager Mark Erwin would certainly agree that his fighter is getting better with each win. Erwin also commented that Coach Ian MacKillop was proud of his student who demonstrated maturity and patience.

Filipino Canadian Boxing Coach Glen Erjas stated he would like to thank Marc for believing in his methods and for making him as sharp as possible before the second phase of training camp with Coach Ian MacKillop in Montreal. Coach Erjas also sends his thanks and appreciation to fellow Filipino Coach Socrates Celestial for giving him the opportunity to work with Marc which started during his training camp in preparation for his second fight. When Coach Erjas worked the mitts with Pagcaliwangan for the first time, they had chemistry right away, he didn't even have to say anything to Marc in regards to punch combinations. They flowed naturally with the mitt work.

On November 30th, both Filipino Canadian Boxers Marc “Gwapo” Pagcaliwangan and Junmar “El Toro” Emon are scheduled to be on the same United Promotions Fight Card to be held at Mississauga’s Hershey Centre. Stay tuned to Philboxing.com for the exclusive details.
