RESULTS FROM QUEZON CITY: PENALOSAS, GABALLO & TAPALES ALL STOP THEIR TANZANIAN FOES (PHOTOS)

QUEZON CITY – Dave and Carlo Penalosa as well as Reymart Gaballo and comebacking former world champion Marlon Tapales made short work of their respective Tanzanian opponents to impress the full-packed crowd at the SM North EDSA Skydome and ESPN 5's live TV audience Sunday afternoon.

In the main event, Dave Penalosa (14-0-0, 10KOs) nicknamed 'The Hunter' who promised to carry on the proud Penalosa boxing family tradition, hunted his Tanzanian prey Twalib Tuwa (21-6-2, 14KOs) from the get go and though the former Tanzanian featherweight title holder showed some signs of fighting back with looping lefts, it was clear that Dave was way ahead from the power department. A head and body combination caught the Tuwa midway of the round to send him backing up the ropes but finally at 2:15 mark, Dave connected with a wicked left hook to Tuwa's body that sent the Tanzanian to the canvas for the count. Tuwa tried to beat the count but Referee Danrex Tapdasan, seeing Tuwa got with unsteady legs, waved off the fight for a TKO victory in the first round by Penalosa.

With the full support of ESPN TV 5 and Dave's uncle Gerrypens Promotions, Filipino boxing fans can expect to see more of Dave Penalosa on TV as he takes more compelling fights in the future.

In the co-main event WBA Interim bantamweight champion Reymart Gaballo showed too much power and class over his Tanzanian rival Julias Kisawire and sent Kisawire to the canvas two times en route to first round stoppage. Gaballo (20-0-0, 17KOs) came out swinging from the opening bell with bad intentions as Kisawire (29-7-1, 15KOs) tried to survive the round but Gaballo caught the Tanzanian with head and body combinations in that sent Kisawire to the canvas for the first time. The Tanzanian beat the count but Gaballo finished him off moments later.

According to Gaballo's manager JC Manangquil, Gaballo will be fighting for the regular WBA world bantamweight title in his next fight against former world champion Liborio Solis of Venezuela who now lives in Panama on November 30 in New Jersey. “The contract has been finalized. The Gaballo-Solis fight is a go as the regular WBA bantamweight title will become vacant,” Mananguil told Philboxing.

In another co-main event, former world champion Marlon Tapales announced that he's back in business when he puts the lights out of Goodluck Mrema with one punch – a wicked right counter that Mrema never saw coming. The exchanges between Tapales and Mrema happened so fast within the opening round that the fight came to an abrupt end even before the audience begun to enjoy the fight. Mrema (24-4-0, 12KOs) who absorbed his first defeat against Cebu's Jeo Santisima, also a first round stoppage, when he first ventured to fight in the Philippines last year, was out of his senses when he hit the canvas and was helped by ring doctors to get back to his senses.

Tapales (31-2-0, 14KOs), a southpaw, later told Philboxing that both of his hands 'can kill'.

JC Mananguil, who now co-manages Tapales with Rex 'Wakee' Salud, informed Phiboxing that Tapales will be signing with Golden Boy Promotions and will now be fighting in the United States.

Carlo Penalosa walks away after putting Jemsi Kibazange to the canvas.

In the only fight in Sunday's event with a title at stake, Carlo Ceasar Penalosa went home with the WBA Asia South flyweight title when he finished off Jemsi Kibazange of Tanzania in the 3rd round showing great maturity as a fighter. Carlo caught Kibazange with a wicked body shot in the second round that sent the Tanzanian to the blue canvas for the first time. When Kibazange got up, Carlo did not rush to finish him but patiently waited for the right moment for the kill which came towards the end of the third round when Carlo caught the Tanzanian with a punishing head and body attack that sent Kibazange down to the canvas for good.

Carlo Penalosa has now improved his record to 13-1-0 with 6 knockouts while Kibazange dropped to 11-3-2, 1KO.

In the preliminaries, undefeated Nicarguan Melvin Lopez (17-0-0, 10KOs) failed to impress the crowd when he almost hit with the upset ax by Renan Portes who knocked him down in the 7th round in their 8-round super bantamweight contest. The early rounds lead by Lopez saved him the day as he escaped with scores of 76-75, 76-75 and 76-76.

In 8-round flyweight, Philip Cuerdo decisions Benezer Alolod with scores of 78-73, 78-72 and 78-72.

In the opening round for 6 rounds light flyweight contest, Paolo Sy (4-2-1, 2KOs) of Valenzuela City wins by decision of Alvin Tayo with scores of 59-56, 58-56 and 59-56.
