Paquiao-Mayweather look for year-ending thriller

With clever agility that took the sting out of Shane Mosley's feeblish challenge, Manny Pacquiao is back in his homestead awaiting word on who to fight among those in his short list of contenders.

One of those being tapped is Manny's persistent pursuer -- Juan Manuel Marquez.

They first met in May of 2004 with Pacquiao decking Juan Ma thrice. The gutsy Mexican survived the opening round assault and settled for a contentious draw turned in by the ring judges.

The rematch came four years later with the Pacman downing the Guadalajaran but failing once more to stop his itinerant rival.

It was a split decision triumph for the pound for pound champ.

Marquez has since been circling the globe hollering at each stop "I got jobbed on both bouts."

He just might get that elusive shot if his handlers deems him a 'safe' risk.

Wasn't that the reason why Sugar Shane Mosley was chosen ahead of the other contenders when he boxed Manny at a crowded MGM Grand?

An undisclosed foot surgery which made him less dangerous for Manny?

Surely, not the brand new pair of shoes you broke in that night Mr. Mosley.

With Shane about to laze in retirement, Marquez is begging for a shot at Manny's WBO welterweight crown with contract provisions financially rewarding than what his ex-ally in the Golden Boy Promotions earned.

Knowing Bob Arum, I doubt he'll give in to Juan Ma's request given the Mexican's previous loss to the GenSan sensation.

Still, Marquez plods on doggedly hoping for a breakthrough in his negotiations for that rare chance of meeting Manny anew.

A fight that can enrich him not only with money, endorsements, commercials and tele-novela roles, but other revenue generating schemes as well.

Pacquiao's ongoing battering of his opponents into retirement has emptied the cuadras of fighters aching to fight him.

No more credible opposition for the Sarangani boxing congressman?

There is of course a fighter demanding to rumble with Pacquiao and that's the routinely out of control yet undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Negotiations have been re-activated and fans might just get what they want -- the staging of the Pacquiao/Mayweather mega-fight.

A fistic engagement in November to remember?

Let's get this on the road shall we?
