Mayol?s predicament should wake up MP Promotions PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Mar 2012 Rodel Mayol returned to his roots here in Cebu and trained for two months. It was a perfect training camp. His sparring sessions did not only involve hungry, up and coming boxers but he had a chance to spar with the famous Japanese brothers Koki and Daiki Kameda at Rex ?Wakee? Salud?s gym. Considering what happened at the weigh-in in Mexico, I can speculate that the defending champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez was not as well prepared. This should have been a golden opportunity for Mayol. But, hard luck and controversy continue to hound him. He had to lose to Eagle Kyowa, Ulises Solis and Ivan Calderon before winning the WBC lt.flyweight title against Edgar Sosa. In between a lot of fans became cynical and got tired of waiting for him to realize his full potential. His short stint as a champion did not help his cause. Now, I am wondering who will fight for Rodel Mayol? He is going back home to his family without a belt or a single penny for his effort. I know I am being presumptuous in trying to tell an incumbent congressman what to do. But Manny Pacquiao has the power, financial clout and influence to stage a title fight for Mayol here in the Philippines. I?m not saying that boxing in the Philippines is being run by saints. Fans and sportswriters have been quick to point out lapses by local officials. No one is prefect but can anyone recall a similar ?cheating at the scales?? incident being committed against a visiting boxer here in the country? Pacquiao has appeared in a lot of commercials and has been endorsing various products for the past few years. I?m sure many of these companies are willing to sponsor his endeavours and willing to work with MP Promotions. Can you imagine if Pacquiao worked hand in hand with all those companies and local television stations? He could create a promotional company bigger than ALA Promotions. Maybe that would have prevented all the lamentations about Bernabe Concepcion?s career; That would have prevented Mayol from defending his WBC belt in Mexico and it surely would have prevented what happened yesterday. Mayol has paid his dues and he deserves better treatment. I will end this short piece with an often repeated quote from Edmund Burke, - ?All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.? (File photo above ?
