Florante Condes? Road Back

PhilBoxing.com

?Opportunity often comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat.? - Napoleon Hill

Former IBF mini-flyweight world champ Florante Condes of the Philippines will be taking a risky step towards regaining the world title this June 26 in East London, South Africa. His opponent for this IBF title eliminator is an undefeated South African and IBO minimumweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi (19-0, 15 KO's).

Joyi is a dangerous southpaw who has been described by the website boxingsa.co.za as ?The best South African bet for any title in the world by any organization.? He has fought exlusively in South Africa. A familiar name on his record is Lorenzo Trejo of Mexico, who he beat by 2nd round KO last November. Trejo was once KO'ed by Rodel Mayol in a WBC minimumweight eliminator held in Mexico three years ago. The 26 year old Joyi has knocked out Filipino boxers Arman dela Cruz (KO2 2006) and Gabriel Pumar (KO1 2007) who appears in Joyi's boxrec record as Boom Boom Toei.

Condes, also a southpaw, won the IBF minimumweight title by a split decision victory over Indonesia's Muhammad Rachman. He knocked Rachman down twice (once in the 3rd round and again in the 10th) in a bout held in Jakarta. Condes sports the ring monicker ?Little Pacquiao? and his record of 23-4-1, 20KO's does show a high knockout precentage. He lost in his first title defense to Mexican Raul Garcia ia split decision in a bout held in Mexico despite knocking down Garcia in the final round.

Undefeated South African and IBO minimumweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi.

The 29 year old Condes fought in Compostela, Cebu last December winning by 5th round technical decision over Ronnel Ferreras. He is now training at the Top Contender Gym in Makati City for this title eliminator. His well publicized managerial problems and his title loss are now a thing of the past. If he beats Joyi, this will take him a step closer to a rematch with Garcia and reclaiming lost glory.
