Like the proud victories by our Filipino pro boxing heroes, the 1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention "Gala Night and Awarding Ceremonies" which will fall on the 20th of April at the Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila is an event to remember in the history of Philippine boxing. We in GAB Board are very proud upon the confirmation made by our beloved President Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to be the convention "Guest of Honor and Speaker" through the Palace's appointment Secretary Liel Cordoba and the kind assistance extended to this agency by the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) officials.

This will be a most memorable moment in the lives of our Filipino pro boxers. This is significant and unprecedented in a sense. And the thing is, this is history in the making for the country's professional sports development. The role that the GAB is playing to this affair is implementor of this program but the Office of the President through Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita is the project proponent.

We are very excited for this event to happen since we expect major announcement from the President of the Republic. We are waiting for some good developments for the common interest and betterment of the boxing community and the pro boxers themselves.

So what are the things we really want to hear from Her Excellency at the "Gala Night" of the convention? Definitely, our chief executive will declare the solid support of her national sporting agenda in protecting the lives and interest of our Filipino athletes here and before the international arena of competition. Laws are expected to be passed before the two houses of Congress for the benefit of our current and past pro boxing champions for retirement reasons. Also, there will be policies to be made that would fit the trends and the demands of the times and an avenue of sound mechanism for the younger generations of sporting heroes.

The President will be joining the GAB officials headed by Chairman Eric R.Buhain to award and recognize the exemplary performances of our top and world class boxers who are champions in the world to give light and meaning to their labor and efforts for the glory and honor of our nation. And who knows? The President might give an impetus to the enhancement of the GAB as an agency under Her office mandated and tasked to regulate and supervise pro sports in the country, through the increase of our budget in the next fiscal year. By then, we could double our efforts with the support of the private sector for the growth of our professional sports in the Philippines.

Expectedly,President Arroyo will also recognize the presence of all top executives and honchos coming from the international boxing sanctioning bodies who will be attending this conclave at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila.

GAB Chairman Eric Buhain stressed that, "The confirmation of the attendance of our beloved President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to our boxing convention is a manifestation of solid support and it is very rewarding on the part of all parties involved".

While we can already project a remarkable success or outcome for this convention, the GAB people and the TEAM Asia group are not about to sit back and relax, as we ensure that all things will be done well. Our friends from the tri-media whom we are relying so much for the day to day informations and updates are always on the go for this. Many thanks our friends!!
