GAB CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS PhilBoxing.com Mon, 27 Mar 2006 On the wonderful occassion of the Flash Elorde Awards Night "Banquet of Champions" last Saturday at the Dusit Nikko Hotel in Makati City where the ever dynamic Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita was the guest of honor and speaker, GAB Chairman Eric R. Buhain and the TEAM ASIA represented by Joey Fornier and Hazel B.M.Cruz, we discussed with finality the highlights of the first GAB Annual Convention. It was already 12:30 AM when the two parties came up with the decision to release these spectacular events to take place in line with the expectations of the participating local and foreign delegations. I can gurantee you that these are but well-planned presentations from its commencement until the final day of the convention. PRESIDENT PGMA TO GRACE THE OPENING NIGHT Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will definitely grace the occassion as the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the "Gala Night" together with the top brass of the national government. The Honorable Executive Secretary Eduardo R.Ermita, Speaker Jose de Venecia, Senator Lito Lapid, Mayor Lito Atienza, Congressmen Mayo Almario, Monico O.Puentevella, Eileen Ermita -Buhain, Mayor Bing Leonardia of Bacolod City and many other local and national officials are set to attend. Department of Tourism Secretary Ace Durano will lead the group of cabinet members who will also honor the invitations of the GAB Board. We expect the President of the Republic to declare Her Excellency's support to the Philippine pro boxing industry and to honor our current and past world boxing champions. AWARDS NIGHT FOR BOXING CHAMPIONS We will be witness to the awarding ceremonies where we bestow upon our former and current boxing world champions. Before the eyes of our foreign counterparts, we will be showcasing the best among our Filipino great fighters of the ring worthy to be emulated. In this particular instance,the GAB and the President will also recognize those people and organizations who in one way or the other have contibuted to the development and evolution of Philippine pro boxing and the achievements we reaped before the international scene. Miss Lara Quigaman, our reigning Miss International will co-host the gala night. PABA BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH The GAB has approved a pro boxing match to take place on April 21 at the Rajah Sulaiman Park dubbed as "The Rumble at the Bay " featuring PABA Champion Jun Paderna of Cebu defending against Kularbdang Kietreerin. Alan Kim, the well-respected Director General of the PABA and WBA Director sanctioned this fight. The main event is under the support of Mayor Lito Atienza of Manila City through Ali Atienza and Dondon Bagatsing and the TEAM Asia as promoter of the card. Chairman Eric R.Buhain has already approved the program as presented by the GAB Boxing Division in cooperation with Don Wakee Salud. This is going to be explosive! LECTURE FORUMS ON VARIOUS TOPICS The different commitees assigned for the convention have already prepared the subject matter to be discussed in the day to day forum to be offered by the GAB to its participants both local and foreign. Gen.Kovid Bhakdibhumi, WBC Vice-President and Asian Boxing Council President will deliver a lecture on Muay Thai, while Ed de la Vega from the US will discuss about the latest trends in boxing mouthpieces. Top calibered and known personalities have been lined up for the lectures on officials, medical and other officers meeting which will include the rules in boxing and the management and promotional aspects of pro boxing here and abroad. Women's professional boxing, recently legalized in the country, will also be discussed. FELLOWSHIP AND SOLIDARITY The gathering of numerous participating delegations both local and international, from the different sanctioning bodies of the world to meet in one conclave at the Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila is an opportune time to have a harmonious cocktails and solidarity as already scheduled in a place that is cozy and fit for the occassion. Here the meeting of all top honchos of ring officials, boxing bodies executives, top promoters and managers, the referee-judges and the boxing champions themselves will surely benefit everybody.As of now , we alredy have the list of confirmed foreign delegations set to arrive. TRADE FAIR AT THE HYATT AND CASINO HOTEL From an array of government offices and the private and business sectors willing to join, the trade fair will display their crafts and goods, of course sporting goods and the what and the hows in the national government per department especially the tourism sector to be headed by the DOT Secretary Ace Durano and his untiring ASEC Cynthia Carrion. This will become the springboard of Philippines' economic pump priming on the part of our foreign delegations. We expect ACCEL of Mr.Willie Ortiz and the PBA of Commissioner Noli Eala to be there also. CONVENTION AS SHOW WINDOW OF WBC 2007 Through the exemplary leadership of Chairman Eric R.Buhain, the country had won the unanimous approval by the World Boxing Council (WBC) Board of Governors that our country will play host to the WBC 2007 world convention. This is a big time event for us and history in the making.The upcoming GAB convention will serve as the show window of what we have here in the beautiful City of Manila in terms of tourism, hotels and restaurants, casinos, nightlife and the investment opportunites to offer to our foreign visitors. Definitely, the capital city of the Philippines will be the object of their future interest. ENTHUSIASM OF OUR PUBLIC OFFICIALS The fire in the hearts of our public officials towards the development of pro boxing as a world class interest is very evident in their active involvement now.In the attendance alone for this convention, we have already in the bag governors , mayors ,congressmen , senators and even sports coordinators in the provinces and localities and cities who have registered earlier. This is really timely as the need for our public servants to rally not only behind the victories of our champion boxers, but to pave the way for the possible inclusion in their annual governmental scheme of sporting programs the development of the boxing industry in the country. CITY TOURS FOR THE DELEGATES Practically all the delegations local and international will have the opportunity to see the wonders of Manila City and other places to be assigned by the convention commitee.Beautiful spots and some scenic attractions to include the golf event to be spearheaded by the GAB Chairman who is a golfer himself. FANS NIGHT AND FUNFARE AT THE BAY Common Filipinos who will witness the "Rumble at the Bay" will have the great chance to meet and have a personal chat with the Filipino boxing champions like Manny Pacquiao, Brian Viloria , Rodel Mayol and many more at the Rajah Sulaiman Park on the 21st of April 2006. Get ready with all your pens and items to be signed by the great heroes of Philippine boxing .
