GAB TO HONOR PRO BOXING CHAMPS,OTHER UPDATES PhilBoxing.com Sun, 26 Feb 2006 It's almost all set for the upcoming 1st GAB Philippine Annual Boxing Convention this coming April 18-21st, 2006 to be held at the Hotel Hyatt and Casino Manila in cooperation with the City Government of Manila under the able leadership of Mayor Lito Atienza. The big task involves day to day meetings , sending invitations to both local and foreign counterparts in the global boxing communities and the mileage of publicity from the tri-media is now being taken into account seriously. All of these things have to be put into its proper perspective since this is a priority project of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo through the ever dynamic Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita and the GAB as an agency under his direct supervision as the implementor.That's the reason why on instructions from Chairman Eric R. Buhain , everything now is carefully and competently undertaken to ensure the full success of the upcoming pro boxing convention. One of the main highlights of the event is the "giving of due honors and recognitions to all our pro boxing champions in the world, past and current champions" Buhain had clearly stated as instruction to the different working committees created by the GAB Board in accordance with the convention mechanics. We are really for the all out support extended by the Office of the President and the would-be sponsors from the private sectors in order to help realize this special program of showcasing the best among our Filipino great fighters of the ring .Our professional boxers are exemplars of global excellence. Top achievement awards will be bestowed upon by this country through this agency to all the past and present world and regional champions in pro boxing.This is to include the posthomous award to those who have already passed away, but made an impact in boxing internationally .The likes of Pancho Villa in the early 1930's ,the Great Flash Elorde in the 60's, Rene Barrientos of Southern Philippines among others during their time.We will be honoring also those individuals and organizations who had been actively involved in the promotion and development of professional boxing in the country since its establishment.Along with them, our current Filipino world rated fighters like Manny Pacquiao,Boom Bomm Bautista ,Z Gorres,Rodel Mayol, Brian Viloria, Czar Amonsot, Randy Suico, Malcolm Tunacao, Bobby Pacquaio, Ernesto Rubillar, Jimrex Jaca and many more regional and world champions will by featured during the "Gala Night" at the start of this memorable event in Manila. We will show it to the world that the national government means business this time in continuing our program in "building our nation's champions for global recognition" as the convention theme suggests. ............................................................. The Technical Working Group of the House Commitee on Youth and Sports headed by Congressman Unico as its Chairman and co-chaired by Cong. Monico O. Puentevella of Bacolod City, is now working to consolidate two significant measures for the long term benefits, pensions and retirement to be given to all professional athletes, particularly pro boxers who have gained world championship status. These proposed House Bills nos. 449 and 4860 geared towards giving lifetime pensions, retirement benefits and other medical assistance to all pro athletes as authored by Reps. Way Kurat Zamora, Darlene Antonino-Custodio and Chez Escudero will give an impact for the enhancement of our governmental thrust for the enrichment of our sports community. The Games and Amusements Board or the GAB headed by Chairman Eric R.Buhain is an active participant and strongly in support to these pending measures." We from the GAB as main party to these have introduced some points of refinement and ammendatory points to strengthen the bills at the TWG level" Buhain maintains.The GAB introduced and having accepted by the Comsec of the house committee on youth and sports " the importance of including all aspects of professional sports and not only pro boxing former world champions". These two bills now are pending before the House Committee chaired by Rep.Unico have been consolidated to focus on pro sports and no longer aimed at including the amateurs as it was originally framed due to the implementation of RA 9064 which is now in effect.RA 9064 is a law that governs the giving of cash rewards or incentives and other lifetime pensions and other benefits to our amateur champions .To our Congressmen,our salute to your concern!
