PABA LAUNCHES WOMAN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Our good friend, the Secretary-General of Pan Asian Boxing Association Mr. Alan Kim from Seoul, South Korea had emailed this writer regarding the December 1st approval by the PABA directorate headed by its President Mr. Yangsup Shim, the launching of the Woman Championship Matches.

Meaning, the PABA as a well-respected regional pro boxing organization under the umbrella of the World Boxing Association of Don Gilberto Mendoza, is now becoming more serious in its attempt to promote women's boxing and now has manifested its solid desire to open the door for the levelling of the playing field.

This is not the first time. As a matter of fact, there are already these big names in women's pro boxing and topping the list of course is the daughter of former heavyweight world champion and legend Muhammad Ali of the US. But how about us in the Philippines? Are Filipinas ready to shed off their Maria Clara image in order to adjust to the changing world boxing climate?

Time and again the Games and Amusements Board or the GAB will be tested on what kind of policies the Board will come up as far as the rules and regulations now being imposed by the PABA are concerned.

When I informed the good Chairman of this Board about the communication I received from Mr Kim, he immediately sounded positive about it and said, "Its more than a welcome development for professional boxing, however, we should see to it that the Board comes up with policies if only to open our door to this opportunity for Filipino women but with emphasis on the protective policies that would ensure their safety and protection, should they decide to engage in boxing,"

So what are the basic rules and regulations set forth by this PABA woman championship matches?

In accordance with the PABA By-Laws, article 27 states that "PABA Woman Championship Match Regulations" should be launched with the following basic rules and regulations:

Sub article 3 Qualification:

3.1 Professional boxer who has been licensed by the local authority
3.2 Boxer who has achieved amateur boxing career recognized by local boxing authority
3.3 Eligible boxer to be designated by the PABA President in his sole discretion.

Article 4 The Rules:

4.1 All female championship fights recognized by this Association shall be ten (10) rounds. Each round shall last two (2) minutes with 1 minute reset between each round.
4.2 Ten (10) point Must System shall be used. A referee and three (3) judges will officiate the match. Incomplete round shall be scored.
4.3 there must be a mandatory eight (8) count after knocked-downed.
4.4 bell can not save the boxer in any round.

4.6 accidental blows
4.7 head butt
4.8 referee is the only person to stop the fight
4.9 anti doping-refers to testing of specimen of urine to be taken after the fight by the ring physician ... these were followed by Article 5 which deals with sanctioning; Article 6 for Supervisors and officials among others ...
