PhilBoxing.com
Wed, 12 Jan 2011

The series of articles that I wrote about the rift and eventual separation between Nonito Donaire Sr., the trainer and father, and his son, Nonito Donaire, Jr., the boxer, came out two years ago. But in the light of the new controversy generated by a story published by Tris Dixon where Donaire Jr. spoke ill of his father to which his mother, Nanay Donaire, responded, I asked our editor and webmaster Dong Secuya, to reprint the columns for people to get a deeper understanding of this sad story that hounds the Donaire family.

Originally published: 09 Feb 2009

Hurting words were traded between world flyweight champion Nonito Donaire, Jr. and his father-trainer, Nonito Sr., following a bitter break-up a few months earlier.

But if the latest words floated were to be the gauge, it seems inevitable that the father and son team would soon kiss and make up, especially with a prospective rematch with world superflyweight champion Vic Darchinyan looming like a dark cloud in the horizon.
