Boholano (BoomBoom) Battles Mexicano (Ruiz)

Rey BoomBoom Bautista has been wearing for quite a time his habitual pout. More of a sulking fit since losing to Daniel Ponce de Leon in his first world title crack.

Now BoomBoom's huffy moods are a thing of the past and he's got Tony Aldeguer to thank for.

His canny handler in tandem with Tagbilaran city mayor Dan Neri Lim and current ALA Stable president Michael Aldeguer, succeeded in turning around the kid's troubled past---a malady that's been aggravated by a wrist fractured during an ill-advised match with the Mexican champ.

The injury worsened when the infected bone begun to rot. Timely surgical procedures were applied to enable Bautista to ressurect his stalled calling.

The gritty Boholano has been cleared to battle the troublesome Mexicano--- a rematch at the posh Cebu Waterfront Hotel.

June 11, a Saturday, is when Rey re-engages Heriberto 'Cuate' Ruiz, a corrival who dealt him his other loss after figuring in a futile championship hunt.

BoomBoom, accorded a second rendesvous with his 34 year old competitor is'nt saying much on his fight plans. Keeping to himself his dire plans for the veteran Siniloan?

Ruiz totes a 46 win credential, knocking out 28 while losing 10 times.

Rey Bautista is focused, a recharged fighter who is back with his origs after straying from the fight norms his steamed managers laid out for compliance. (Nawaglit sa daang matuwid?)

He was a gem of a fighter when he started. A brawling-warrior who's game to the core.

I witnessed BoomBoom's rise from day one.

No fighter in the ALA stable meant more to Tony than the kid from Candijay.

No one---until de Leon, a Cuauhtemoc southpaw came along.

Oooops! Did I say 'lefty'?

Ex-super-bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce de Leon does not in a way resemble Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao's unique stance.

The Pacman is a cut above the rest. He is one of the best if not the finest left-handed destroyer of all time.

Agreed?

But I digress. Sorry for departing from my main theme.

Want to know what set Rey apart from the rest of the ALA clan? Raw power.

Boom Boom has chalked up a number of abbreviated wins that took the fancy of observers following his exciting starts.

Weakness? Penetrable defense but nothing a smart defensive coach can't remedy.

Aldeguer's show of faith in giving his ward a second chance will pay off in the long run.

Bautista's premature thrust into boxing's limelight contributed to a roller coaster ride along cauliflowers row. But all that has changed or so we are told.

Let's see then how this ultimate grudge match pans out.

See ya at fight.
