CUELLO VS. RACHMAN IS AN INTRIGUING FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com
16 Sep 2010

On September 25, Saturday, WBC International Strawweight Champion Denver “The Excitement” Cuello (21W-4L-5D, 12KOs) of Aljoe Jaro Boxing Gym, Binangonan Rizal, Philippines will defend his crown against former IBF Mini Flyweight Champion Muhammad “The Rock” Rachman (62W-8L-5D, 31KOs) of Blitar, Indonesia.

The venue of the fight will be at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium in Iligan City as part of the city’s celebration of its annual fiesta in honor of Señor San Miguel which officially has the feast day every 29th of September.

Cuello is highly ranked at no. 4 by the latest WBC rankings and no. 10 by the IBF. Rachman is just under the radar at no. 16 of the WBC rankings. A win by Cuello will solidify his status as one of the best 105-pounders in the world beating a former world champion. While a win by Rachman will be his ticket to resurrecting his once illustrious boxing career.

What makes this match-up an intriguing one is the fact that Cuello became popular because of his knockout wins. Of Cuello’s last 7 wins, 6 of the wins were by the KO route. On the other hand, Rachman is a grizzled veteran who had never been knocked out before.

This will be the biggest test in Cuello’s career as it is the first time that he is matched up against a former world champion. Rachman will surely bring his A-game come fight night and prove to the world that he is not yet “over-the-hill”.

One thing is for sure, the people of Iligan City and the neighbouring provinces, who decides to watch the fight live will get their money’s worth. This is definitely a world-class boxing affair.

The fight is promoted by Jaro International Boxing Promotions in cooperation with the City Government of Iligan City and the Municipal Government of Maigo, Lanao del Norte. This fight will be covered by giant television network GMA-7.
