Elorde Awards to give citation to Philboxing.com!

PhilBoxing.com
24 Mar 2006

Tomorrow, Philboxing.com earns a milestone although it is just but a fledgling internet site devoted to Filipino boxers, as the Elorde Banquet of Champions will give away a citation to the site for its incisive coverage of the Pinoy boxing landscape.

Liza Elorde, wife of Johnny and daughter-in-law of the late Gabriel "Flash" Elorde in whose honor the awards will be given, informed that Philboxing.com exemplifies the best in the Filipino, and for this reason, the Elorde family is proud to confer on Philboxing.com owner Dong Secuya a citation at tomorrow's awards night.

Aside from Philboxing.com, those who will receive awards tomorrow are: Manny Pacquiao (Best Boxer), Brian Viloria (Elorde Special Award), Sammy Gello-ani (Best Promoter) Rex "Wakee" Salud (Best Manager), Restituto "Buboy" Fernandez (Best Trainer), Ferdinand Estrella (Best Judge), Silvestre Abainza (Best Referee) and Czar Amonsot (Most Promising Boxer).

The Elorde Awards describes Gello-ani as " the consummate boxing man and considered the best in the business.

Salud, meanwhile, is considered the "de facto adviser of superstar Manny Pacquiao...who has learned how to swim with the sharks in the beakbusting business."

In describing Amonsot, the awards said: "If Flash Elorde was around today, he would have been so proud of this year's Most Promising Boxer, not only because they share the same weight division as a junior lightweight and are both southpaws, but because just like Bai, Amonsot is a promdi who is on his way to carving his name in the big league. A native of Tagbilaran City, the ALA Boy Amonsot is the reigning WBO Asia Pacific super-featherweight king."

Also set to get special awards are former Elorde ring opponents Tanny Campo and Tommy Romulo.

Congratulations to all the awardees!
